Day 2300: 6 Lessons Learned in 2016

Every year brings with it its own lessons and those who don’t learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them– that’s what I realized.

It’s 11: 39 AM on day 2300 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  pray, read Romans 8: 28 and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –raised $9 625.04 only  $2 875.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).

Today being the last day of the year I’ve decided to share some lessons I’ve learned in 2016. Take a look:

6 Lessons Learned in 2016

  1. Christianity is really simple people make it complicated – all the Bible basically says is have faith, be a good human being and do the right thing.
  2. With help I can do anything – going ziplining taught me that with help I can do anything (before that I thought doing physical things was out of the question for me).
  3. The people who really love you are those who saw you when you were invisible to the rest of the world – this year has taught me that most people will applaud you and claim to know you when times are good but those that really love you are those who saw you and those who were there for you when you were invisible to the rest  of the world.
  4. Fear is a feeling and courage is a decision – most of the things I did this year I did in spite of being afraid not because I wasn’t afraid which made me realize fear is a feeling and courage is a decision.
  5. Without health everything else is a meaningless – there were a few months this year that I just kept getting sick (I couldn’t catch a break) which makes me appreciate my health.
  6. The truth is stranger than fiction – Donald Trump is going to be President of the United States of America (yikes) and the UK will exit the EU (double yikes).

Day 2297: My letter to those not yet born

We owe the present and future generation the best of ourselves – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 10: 05 AM on day 2297 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Hebrews 12:28-29 and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –raised $9 461.04 only  $3 038.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).

Yesterday feeling guilty about the state of our world I wrote a letter to those not yet born. Take a look:

My letter to those not yet born:

December 27, 2016

Dear child,

My name is Nisha Varghese as I write this I’m 25-years-young with more questions than answers every day I try so that your future is better than my present.

I hope in your present there’s less waste, less inequality and less hate. I hope being different is seen as a strength and not as a weakness. I hope your technology has not overtaken your humanity. I hope planet Earth is not completely destroyed.

If your present is far from what you wish it to be please act to create the world you desire to live in – try for me and those who will come after you. Always remember: There’s a superhero inside you just waiting to come out.

Yours sincerely,

Nisha

PS. Please forgive my generation for the ways in which we have failed you.

Day 2296: Actions, Priorities and People

Gandhi was right actions express priorities – that’s what I have realized.

It’s 10: 31 AM on day 2296 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  -pray, read Matthew 2: 11-12  and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    – yesterday   Joubert Botha  donated $50 and Tony Seifart also donated $50  (thanks guys 🙂 )  which brings the total  raised to $9 461.04 only  $3 038.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).

Today making a phone call to someone I realized that people will always and forever matter more to me than money, power, prestige or things.

Day 2295: Easier to be Cynical?

It’s easier for people to people to be cynical than to actually believe that they and their actions make a difference – that’s what I realized yesterday.

It’s 9: 32 AM on day 2295 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  -pray, read Luke 2: 13-14 and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    – yesterday  David Boutin  donated $50   (thanks David 🙂 )  which brings the total  raised to $9 361.04 only  $3 138.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far )

Yesterday I was having a conversation with someone and I realized that it’s easier for people to be cynical than to actually believe that they and their actions make a difference because if one actually believes that everybody in the world is a scammer then they are justified in not trying to create change.

Day 2294: Merry Christmas

“Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values.” – Thomas S. Monson

It’s 8: 17 AM on day 2294 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  -pray, read Luke 2: 1-20 and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –raised $9 311.04 only  $3 118.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).

Today is Christmas Day one of my favourite days of the year because it’s about giving, family, friends, food and fun I’ll be having lunch with the family. Merry Christmas everyone.

Day 2293: Merry Christmas Eve

“Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love.”
― Hamilton Wright Mabie

It’s 8: 49 AM on day 2293 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  -pray, read Luke 2:6-7 and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –raised $9 311.04 only  $3 118.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).

Today is Christmas Eve there’s just something about this season that I absolutely love it’s like just for a month we slow down and remember the things that actually matter. Merry Christmas Eve everyone.

Day 2292: Kindness – an all-natural drug that gives you a forever high

“Life is made up, not of great sacrifices or duties, but of little things, in which smiles and kindness, and small obligations given habitually, are what preserve the heart and secure comfort.” – Humphry Davy

It’s 11: 18 AM on day 2292 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  -pray, read Galatians 4:4-5, have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –raised $9 311.04 only  $3 118.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).

This morning I called some people who’ve made a difference in my life just to say happy holidays and thank you it made me (and still makes me) feel so good inside (kindness is an all-natural drug that gives you a forever high).

Day 2290: Family Time 2016

“Presence is more than just being there. When you take time out, be all there, with your family, friends & quiet time. It’s more than presence.” – Catherine Constantinides

It’s 3: 58 PM on day 2290 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,   have breakfast, go shopping with family – finally bought Christmas presents for everyone (we do family gifts so each family within our family gets 1 gift from each of the other families), have lunch with family  and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    – yesterday Joshua, Jonathan and Jeremiah   donated $25 and Stan Faryna donated $25 (thanks SO MUCH to to all of them) which brings the total  raised to $9 311.04 only  $3 138.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ) (Note: My fundraising page has been revamped and because it takes time to move the info from the old platform to the new the total raised looks less than it actually is.

Today was a day spent with family shopping with family, eating with family, playing with family…. It was nice and I seldom thought about all the stuff I needed to get done it was nice from now onwards I’m just going to be wherever I am life’s more enjoyable that way.

Day 2289: The Question To Make A Great Day

In life questions may be more important than answers– that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 11: 39 AM on day 2289 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  -pray, read 1 Samuel 12:20, have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –raised $9 261.04 only  $3 238.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).

This morning it occurred to me that every one of my great days starts with the same question how can I help others? I get so excited and happy just thinking about all the different ways that I can make someone’s day (it feels so great).

Day 2287: “Holy War” by Alicia Keys

What if sex was holy and war was obscene
And it wasn’t twisted, what a wonderful dream
Living for love, unafraid of the end
Forgiveness is the only real revenge

Oh so we can heal each other and fill each other
We can break these walls between each other
Baby, blow by blow and brick by brick
Keep yourself open, yourself open
Yeah we can heal each other and fill each other
We can break these walls between each other
Baby, blow by blow and brick by brick
Keep yourself open, you’re open

So maybe we should love somebody
Maybe we could care a little more
So maybe we should love somebody
Instead of polishing the bombs of holy war

Alicia Keys, “Holy War”

It’s 12: 05 PM on day 2287 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  -pray, read Isaiah 25:9, have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –raised $9 261.04 only  $3 238.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).
