Day 2322: Special Schools Vs. Mainstream Schools

Education should unite not segregate  – that’s my opinion

It’s 11: 18 AM on day 2322 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Psalm 29:11 and learn a new word – Disparate [dis·pa·rate] adj. Essentially different in kind; not allowing comparison. markedly distinct in quality or character. “He is a strong leader capable of managing a disparate team to achieve their goals.”

Yesterday my brother, my sister and I were discussing an essay topic my brother was given Should kids with Down Syndrome be accepted into mainstream schools? I’ve been to a special school and while I admit it does give children the individualized attention they need I feel like putting kids in special schools if they can cope in mainstream schools just segregates them which is not to say I think every differently-abled child should attend mainstream schools I’m just saying those who are capable of attending mainstream schools should because in the real-world there are very few special universities, special workplaces and special social structures for the differently-abled…. the real-world, unlike special schools, is not rigged to help the differently-abled succeed and the sooner differently-abled people accept that and learn to work around it the better for them.

Day 2321: Paragliding in April with Fly Cape Town Paragliding

“Life is a game, play it; Life is a challenge, Meet it; Life is an opportunity, Capture it.” – Unknown

It’s 11: 24 AM on day 2321 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Proverbs 18:10 and learn a new word -Definitions for multitudinous 1.existing, occurring, or present in great numbers; very numerous; forming a multitude or great number. 2.comprising many items, parts, or elements.3. Archaic. crowded or thronged.

Yesterday our accommodation in Cape Town was confirmed so I can safely announce that on April 8, 2017 (weather permitting) I will be paragliding in Cape Town with Fly Cape Town Paragliding (I don’t have a death wish I have a life wish and it is to live and not merely exist – I hope to show the world the possibility in every human being).

Day 2320: Have Hope

Have hope– that’s my message to the world.

It’s 9: 05 AM on day 2320 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Psalm 119: 114 and work on some of my 2017 Goals .

This morning I feel hopeless because of the global political climate and other stuff but I’m choosing to have hope anyway because I know that we as individuals have the power to make a difference from wherever we are with whatever we have.

Day 2319: Changing of mind

It’s okay to change your mind sometimes – that’s what I realized today.

It’s 11: 45 AM on day 2319 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, have breakfast, Habakkuk 3:19 and work on some of my 2017 Goals .

This morning I realized that it’s okay to change my mind sometimes (once I make up my mind I seldom change it which is awesome in some ways and horrible in others).

Day 2318: My Life Wish

I have a life wish and it is to live and not merely exist – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 12: 22 PM on day 2317 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, have breakfast,  read Isaiah 26: 3, go get my face waxed and haircut with my sister (the things we women have to go through to look halfway presentable are ridiculous #JustSaying) and go grocery shopping – when it’s just the two of us doing grocery shopping my sister and i use the wheelchair as a trolley it comes in handy (everything is the way you choose to look at it).

Today I realized that me doing all these adventurous things is all in aid of fulfilling my life wish to live and not merely exist (most of the time although I’m so grateful for the health of my body I  feel a bit trapped in it adventure sports makes me feel free if only for an hour or two).

Day 2317: A Simple Exercise For Goal-Achievement

“Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.” – Zig Ziglar

It’s 11: 53 AM on day 2317 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, have breakfast,  read Psalm 46:1-3  and work on a few of my 2017 Goals (can’t go into details till everything is fully finalized but i can say i’m so very excited about things to come).

Recently I’ve started writing down my daily goals and posting it on my social media accounts I check on my goals occasionally throughout the day and by the end of the day I find that I’ve achieved most, if not all, of my goals for that day it’s a simple exercise that has made a big difference in my life.

Day 2316: The Book of Joy

“We create most of our suffering, so it should be logical that we also have the ability to create more joy. It simply depends on the attitudes, the perspectives, and the reactions we bring to situations and to our relationships with other people. When it comes to personal happiness there is a lot that we as individuals can do.”

― Dalai Lama XIV, The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World

It’s 11: 52  AM on day 2316 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  read Isaiah 41:10 and have breakfast.

Yesterday I finished reading The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by the 14th Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Douglas Abrams it’s a profound yet simple book about the keys to having joy and living a joyful life (I love that both His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Archbishop Desmond Tutu emphasized that being of service and looking outward from one’s own suffering were at the core of living a joyful life (it’s so true)).

Thank you superhero Catherine Constantinides for sending me the book I will treasure it always because of the wonderful lessons in the book and because of the beautiful inscription you wrote in it.

Day 2315: Love and Sacrifice

Love and sacrifice are inseparable from each other – that’s what I realized yesterday.

It’s 11: 21  AM on day 2315 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, do my first ever Facebook Livestream – that was cool 🙂 – read Jeremiah 29: 11 and have breakfast.

Yesterday I realized that love and sacrifice are inseparable from each other  sometimes the people we love make sacrifices for us that we will never know about because they don’t want us to feel like we are a burden to them (blessed are those who love us in ways we will never know).

Day 2314: Compassion and Me

We must have compassion for the fact that people can’t fully understand an experience they’ve never had – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 5: 10  PM on day 2314 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray and read Deuteronomy 31:6, go to the doctor to get a note to go paragliding in April (i got the note so yay) and go to the mall

This morning I was annoyed that people don’t understand what I go through then I realized they really don’t most people don’t know what it’s like to be so physically dependent on others as an adult because they’ve never had that experience it’s not their fault it just is the way it is and I’m beginning to have great compassion for that.

Day 2313: The Good in Every Day

There’s good in every single day– that’s what I’m realizing.

It’s 10: 12  AM on day 2313 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray and read Isaiah 43:19 (will be working on my birthday project benefiting Miss Earth South Africa and Jumping Kids -unfortunately only those living in South Africa can participate in this project (apologies to my friends overseas).

Recently I started writing down one awesome moment of every day which is making me realize there is good in every day we just have to pause and reflect to find it.
