It’s day 453 of my journey towards independence and day 3 of vacation fed myself Appam and chicken curry for breakfast, spent time with my family, fed myself rice and curry for lunch and went to Royals – a local clothing store – to  shop – when I entered the store men stopped paying and started staring and  the women who worked at the store said to my aunt that they saw ‘someone like me’ on Idea Star Singer – Kerala’s version of American idol – I didn’t mind I saw it as an opportunity to change people’s perceptions about disabled people – I greeted people and made sure that they knew that I was of sound mind –    my sister on the other hand was furious saying stuff like you’d swear they’d never  seen someone in a wheelchair before.
