Reflections of a Humanitarian on World Humanitarian Day

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others

On this World Humanitarian Day I reflect on the journey I’ve been on since I turned 18, first with international organizations and for the past 8 years with Breath of Life, none of it has been easy but all of it has been worth it. Thank you so much to each and everyone of you that has been on this journey with me -I am me BECAUSE YOU BELIEVED IN ME!

Advice for aspiring humanitarians

1. Pick an issue your heart breaks for

2. If you ask you won’t receive – you have to tell a story with feeling

3. It will be hard, remember your why and don’t quit

Day 2531: On World Humanitarian A Thank You To All Trying

“There is a myth that those who do humanitarian work have a saviour mentality, but the relationship is reciprocal.” Meghan Markle

It’s 10 : 59 AM on day 2531 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Romans 1:17, have breakfast, and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised to $3 125 only $9 375 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

Today being World Humanitarian Day  I’d like to pause to thank all the good, kind and honest people of the world for everything that they do (both seen and unseen). Thank you Catherine Constantinides, Ella Bella Constantinides-Leite, Sebastian Schütte and the Panda CrewBrent Lindeque, Kerri Stein, Yusuf Abramjee, Carolyn SteynSusannah Schaefer, Malala Yusufzai, Shiza Shahid Kayan Leung, Dave Batstone, Chesca Colloredo-Mansfeld and all the other good, kind and honest people of the world you make the world go around. I salute every one of you and I thank you so much.

Day 1800: World Humanitarian Day 2015

“I’m not a do-gooder. It embarrassed me to be classified as a humanitarian. I simply take part in activities that I believe in.” Gregory Peck

It’s 12 : 01 PM on day 1800  of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray, read Mark 5,    publish my Disability of the Day feature,    learn one new thing –   Circuitous [cir·cu·i·tous] adj. Being or taking a roundabout, lengthy course: “He took acircuitous route to avoid traffic.” – have breakfast and  promote my Educate Generations campaign – $4 591 raised so far (thanks everyone   :) ).

Today is World Humanitarian Day which, to me, is a day for everybody who fights for equality because they believe that opportunity should not be a lottery of birth. Happy World Humanitarian Day to Catherine Constantinides, Sebastian Schütte, Malala Yousafzai, Shiza Shahid,  Angelina Jolie-Pitt, Oprah WinfreyDave Batston, Elton John, Ertharin Cousin, Kendall Ciesemier and many others the world is built on the backs of people like you thank you so much for who you are and what you do every day.
