Day 1456: Yearning to be ordinary

Life is infinitely more complicated when one is differently-abled – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 1 : 38 PM on day 1456 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Psalm 144,    publish my Disability of the Day feature and read Actually true firefighter fables.

Two days ago our housekeeper  told us she couldn’t come to work today because she had to go to the clinic which meant my parents had to scramble to find a stand-in housekeeper so they could go to work today and they couldn’t just leave me with anyone the person they hired had to be physical strong enough to lift me everything when it comes to me requires planning if we’re going on vacation we need to call ahead to find out if the place is wheelchair accessible, if we’re hiring new people we need to know if they are physically strong enough to help me… for once in my life I would like not to have to worry about wheelchair accessibility or our housekeeper’s weight I just want to be an ordinary twenty-three-year-old with ordinary problems.

Day 1453: Maleficent

If you want anything you do to be successful it has to be different from anything ever done before– that’s my message to the world.

It’s 1  : 20 PM on day 1453 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  brush my teeth, stretch my hamstrings, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  hang out with my sister, publish my Disability of the Day feature, pray, read Psalm 141, have a feet massage,  listen to music and make sandwiches for our sisi’s (housekeeper’s) neighborhood with sisi’s help as part of  Virginia’s Sandwich Run (thank you sisi for all your help)

Recently I watched Maleficent this movie was different from all the Sleeping Beauty movies in that it was more about why the evil witch became evil than it was about Sleeping Beauty I totally loved it because it was so different.

Day 1447: Less TV = More Life

“I must say I find television very educational. The minute somebody turns it on, I go to the library and read a good book. “- Groucho Marx

It’s 12  : 52 PM on day 1447 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed  to brush my teeth,   feed myself a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast,  pray, read Psalm 135, go fetch my sister from the airport and go to the doctor a follow up appointment he says my foot is on track for a full recovery so I’m happy.

Recently I cut back significantly on my TV watching and I was amazed how much free time I had now I find myself reading and listening to music.

Day 1446: Giving and Receiving

Those who receive are more likely to give and those who give are more likely to receive – that’s what I realized this morning.

It’s 12  : 36 PM on day 1446 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed  to brush my teeth, pray,   feed myself a peanut butter sandwich and a banana for breakfast,  read Psalm 134, donate to help my friend’s friend,  publish my Disability of the Day feature and  have a foot massage for my foot infection.

This morning I realized those who receive are more likely to give and those who give are more likely to receive whenever somebody asks me for something I will more often than not give it to them because I know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of the kindness of others.

Day 1445: Be Nice to Taylor Swift and everybody else

Be nice to everyone even those you may never meet– that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12  : 50 PM on day 1445 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,   feed myself a peanut butter sandwich and a banana for breakfast,  read Psalm 133, publish my Disability of the Day feature,     have a foot massage for my foot infection and ask Parez Hilton to help me with my upcoming campaign – Parez is the creator of parezhilton.com  and he knows every celeb so I figured I’d ask him to ask his friends to auction off a few of their things and donate the proceeds to my upcoming campaign it’s a long shot but it’s still a shot.

Recently I was watching Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” music video and I couldn’t help noticing all the nasty comments just below the video people were not just attacking the girl’s music they were also criticizing her body which I thought was really uncalled for the internet enables us to criticize whoever we want anonymously but we should keep in mind that the people we criticize are people just like us with thoughts and feelings.

Day 1444: A Month and Three Days

You never really get over losing someone you love with time you just learn to live with the ache in your heart – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12  : 59 PM on day 1444 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, go back to bed,  feed myself boiled egg with bread for breakfast (with mom’s help), pray,  read Psalm 132, publish my Disability of the Day feature and have a foot massage for my foot infection and ask celebrities to help me with my upcoming campaign  – I asked a few celebs to auction off something of theirs and donate the proceeds to my upcoming campaign hopefully it works.

It’s been a month and three days since my grandma died I thought I would be over it by now but I’m not I guess you never really get over losing someone you love with time you just learn to live with the ache in your heart.

Day 1443: “How death changed my life: The buried life at TEDxRoma”

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”― Mahatma Gandhi

It’s 12  : 00 PM on day 1443 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  feed myself a peanut butter sandwich and a banana for breakfast, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  pray,  read Psalm 131  and have a foot massage for my foot infection – I don’t know if it’s the medication I’m taking or the normal hormonal fluctuations I’m going through but I feel so tired things could be worse I suppose when I think of what people in Israel and Palestine are going through my foot infection seems insignificant.

A couple of weeks ago I watched “How death changed my life: The buried life at TEDxRoma” it’s an inspirational Ted Talk by four guys who realized they weren’t immortal and decided to live life to the fullest. Watch “How death changed my life: The buried life at TEDxRoma” below:

Day 1442: The Most Positive Sick Person the World Has Ever Seen

You can’t choose what happens to you but you can choose how you react to it – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12  : 28 PM on day 1442 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  feed myself a peanut butter sandwich and a banana for breakfast pray,  read Psalm 130, publish my Disability of the Day feature and have a foot massage – only I would be told to have a foot massage as part of treatment (sigh)

This morning I was feeling awful due to my foot infection until I decided to be the most positive sick person the world has ever seen I figured whining about being sick won’t make any less sick so why bother whining.  Do you always try to react to negative situations in a positive way?

Day 1440: When in doubt go check it out

When it comes to matters of health it’s best not to delay– that’s what I learned this morning.

It’s 3 : 20  PM on day 1440 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  read Psalm 128, publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself egg with bread for breakfast, brush my teeth, and go to the doctor – I have another infection only this time it’s on my right foot (when it rains it pours).

This morning I finally got the cuts on my toes properly checked out and it’s a good thing I did because it turns out that those cuts are infected (yuck) it sucks that I now have to take medication but from this experience I have learned that when it comes to matters of health it’s best not to delay.

Day 1439: Life and the Stock Market

Life is like the stock market – that’s what I realized this morning.

It’s 1  : 33  PM on day 1439 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Psalm 127, publish my Disability of the Day feature, stretch my hamstrings,  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  feed myself a peanut butter sandwich and a banana for breakfast and  read an online newspaper – what’s with the war between Israel and Palestine I’m not taking any sides I just want peace 2 ,087 people have already died in 46 days of conflict I pray that those engaged in the war come to their senses before the death toll rises.

This morning I realized life is like the stock market if a company has solid fundamentals and is managed properly no matter how bad things look it will turn around eventually in the same way if you’re a good person who tries to do the right thing no matter how bad things look you will succeed in the end.
