Day 960: My Favourite Blogs 2013

“Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another’s skin, another’s voice, another’s soul.” — Joyce Carol Oates

It’s  4  : 27 PM on day 960 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to stretch my hamstrings, take off my dirty shirt and put on a clean t-shirt – I hate whoever created buttons it took me ages to get dressed – brush my teeth, feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast,   practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, pray, read Numbers 13,  publish my Disability of the Day feature and  practice typing with both hands.

As you may know I love reading other people’s blogs and since I believe everything’s better when you share it I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite blogs. Take a look:

  3. Chasing Rainbows – a blog by Kate Gallagher  Leong  about motherhood, love and loss – Kate has taught me grace her oldest son Gavin died just recently and  in the midst of her grief she wrote a post telling people not to worry about what to say to her and her husband when they show up at the church.

Day 959: Different is beautiful

Different is beautiful. – Charisse Hogan

It’s  4  : 05 PM on day 959 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Numbers 12,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, tweet and Facebook about my campaign – still on 6% with 77 days to go – feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast,   practice typing with both hands and  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

Two days ago I stumbled across Beautifully Different by Charisse Hogan what struck me most about Charisse’s story was that it mirrored my own growing up I too wondered why did I have to be so different but just like Charisse I’ve come to realize every life has a purpose. Watch Beautifully Different below:

Day 958

Kids do what you do – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s  1  : 42 PM on day 958 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Numbers 11, publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my  Kid of the Week feature, go to church – I liked the sermon the reverend talked about how we sometimes hinder God by being so set in our ways –    feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, practice typing with both hands and make sandwiches as part of Virginia’s Sandwich Run with our housekeeper’s help.

Today my brother walked into the dining room just as our housekeeper and I were about done making sandwiches and said without any prompting from anybody I want to do one I was so proud I felt like I was teaching him to serve others through my actions. Do you try and teach the kids in your life through your words or your actions?

Day 957

Freedom is what we do with what is done to us. ― Jean-Paul Sartre

It’s  4  : 48 PM on day 957 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Numbers 10, take off my dirty t-shirt and put on a clean one,   feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast, go visit my cousin, publish my Disability of the Day feature  and practice typing with both hands.

This morning my parents decided to go visiting after picking up my brother from extra class but before they left my mother came to my room and said as if trying to make up for not taking me with them when we come back we’ll take you to visit your cousin it’s always like this around here when my parents want to go visit people that we don’t know very well they usually leave me with the housekeeper and one other person so I won’t feel like I’m the only one they didn’t take it hurts to think that my own parents are ashamed of me but just as they choose not to take me to certain places I can choose to forgive them for it and focus on all the good things that they do for me we are all willing to forgive people while sitting in the front pews of a church but I think it’s just as important to forgive people in our every day lives.  Are you under the misconception that you have to do unto others exactly as they’ve done unto you?

Day 956

It takes a village just to get me through the day  – that’s what I realized today.

It’s  5 : 20 PM on day 956 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, read Numbers 9, stretch my hamstrings, brush my teeth, feed myself Bran Flakes for breakfast,  practice typing with both hands, work on this blog – as you can see there have been a few changes made to this blog please bare with me as I reconstruct this blog this blog just like me is a work in progress – take off my dirty t-shirt and put on a clean one, feed myself brown rice and curry for lunch and  go to physiotherapy.

Today I realized it takes a village just to get me through the day whether it’s going to the bathroom or changing my clothes I need someone’s help and sure sometimes it sucks not having the privacy that other people have but being helped by people makes me a more generous and humble human being let me tell you something there’s no place for ego when you need people to help you wipe your backside. Do you appreciate the village that helps you get through the day?

Day 955

Some days move at a snail’s pace– that’s what I learned today.

It’s  4  : 45 PM on day 955 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Numbers 8, take off my dirty t-shirt and put on a clean one, feed myself Bran Flakes for lunch  and practice typing with both hands.

This morning started off on a bad note when a health concern I had was dismissed off hand and then things went from bad to worse when I discovered this blog was malfunctioning for some reason I just want this day to end. Do you sometimes feel like time isn’t moving fast enough?

Day 954

Be grateful for the ordinary days– that’s what I keep learning  🙂

It’s  5  : 41 PM on day 954 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to stretch my hamstrings, brush my teeth, feed myself an avocado sandwich for breakfast,  pray, read Numbers 7, publish my Disability of the Day feature, work/practice typing with both hands, tweet and Facebook about my campaign – still on 6% with 82 days to go – read Mommy’s Eulogy to her Superhero… on Chasing Rainbows,    practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  feed myself pasta and chicken for lunch and watch TV.

Today has been positively tiring with therapies, work and promoting my anti-slavery campaign but I’m grateful at least I’m alive to be tired there are a lot of people who would have given an arm and a leg to be in my position.

Day 953

We live in a very apathetic society – that’s what I keep learning 🙁

It’s  3  : 12 PM on day 953 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, stretch my hamstrings,    practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, feed myself a boiled eggs and a pear for breakfast,  pray, read Numbers 6, publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice typing with both hands, tweet and Facebook about my campaign – still on 6% with 83 days to go – and take off my dirty t-shirt and put on a clean one.

Today tweeting and Facebooking about my anti-slavery campaign I felt like all people cared about were their family, their friends, their jobs, their mortgages and their bills which begs the question if we only care about ourselves and our loved ones what happens to the people in the world who have no one. Are you apathetic about the world’s problems because you have too many problems of your own?

Day 952

Not every day is going to be easy and that’s okay– that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s  2  : 56 PM on day 952 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to    brush my teeth, practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  publish my Disability of the Day feature, practice typing with both hands, pray, read Numbers 5,  feed myself bread and beans for breakfast,   take off my dirty turtleneck and  t-shirt and put a new t–shirt on – taking off my turtleneck I was afraid that I would burst a blood vessel in my brain or something that’s how much effort I was putting into it, it pisses me off when I hear people complain about paying taxes or not having enough money while I struggle every day to do  simple  things and still manage to put a smile on my face – stretch my hamstrings and  tweet and Facebook about my campaign – still stuck on 6% with 84 days to go.

Today has been one of those days where everything took ages to do which is okay because going through tough days like this makes me appreciate the easy days.  Do you expect every day to be a walk in the park?

Day 951

How we see ourselves is often different from how other people see us – that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 3 : 45 PM on day 951 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to continue reading Love, Lies and High Heels by Debby Conrad – I stayed up through the night and into the morning just reading this type of stuff always happens to me I get so caught up in a book that  I completely  lose track of time – tweet and Facebook about my campaign – stuck on 6% with 85 days to go – publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my  Kid of the Week feature, sleep, stretch my hamstrings, brush my teeth,  feed myself All Bran Flakes and a boiled egg for brunch, pray, read Numbers 4, practice typing with both hands and practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles.

Last night I stumbled onto the Dove Real Beauty Sketches advert it touched my heart and proved to me that how we see ourselves is often different from how other people see us. Take a look:
