Day 1959: Changing for the world Vs. Changing the world

“If you desire to make a difference in the world, you must be different from the world.” – Brent Lindeque

It’s 12 : 30 PM on day 1959 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Ephesians 6, learn one new thing –This myth possibly arose as a way of explaining why Koalas sleep for up to 22 hours a day. They need more sleep than most animals because eucalyptus leaves contain toxins and are very low in nutrition and high in fibrous matter so they take a large amount of energy to digest.- have breakfast  and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign –raised $1 170 so far only $5 080 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :) ) .

Today I realized I wasn’t born to conform to the world I was born to transform the world which may be hard for some people to understand and may cause some problems for me in a world that values fitting in above all else but you know I refuse to change for the world I much prefer changing the world.

Day 1958: What to do when you screw up

When you screw up all you can do is apologize and try to fix things – that’s what I’ve learned.

It’s 11 : 24 AM on day 1958 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Ephesians 5 have breakfast, learn one new thing –While it may be tempting to brush off warnings against looking up at this eclipse bare-eyed, don’t: The light of an eclipse really can damage your eyes — though warnings of total blindness are likely overstated. The condition is called solar retinopathy, and it occurs when bright light from the sun floods the retina–  and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign – $1 170 raised so far so grateful :) .

Yesterday I screwed up royally when I realized it I apologized immediately and tried to fix things hopefully my apology was accepted wholeheartedly now I just have to forgive myself for my own stupidity which is going to be harder than being forgiven by the person I wronged.

Day 1957: Karma and Us

How people treat you is their karma how you treat them is yours – words I try to live by.

It’s 12 : 11 PM on day 1957 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Ephesians 4, learn one new thing –Jonas Salk. Jonas Edward Salk (October 28, 1914 – June 23, 1995) was an American medical researcher and virologist. He discovered and developed the first successful inactivated polio vaccine. He was born in New York City to Jewish parents.- have breakfast  and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign – yesterday Nancy donated $25 and today Rema aunty donated $25   (thanks SO MUCH  Nancy and Rema aunty  your ongoing  support means the world to me :) )  which brings my total raised to $1 170 only $5 080 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :) ) .

A while ago I read something like how people treat you is their karma how you treat them is yours now every time I find myself in an unpleasant interaction with someone I try to remember those words it really helps me keep my self-control (that and bless those who curse you works really well).

Day 1956: Let people go

If people want to go you can’t make them stay and if they don’t want to go you can’t make them leave – that’s what I’ve realized recently.

It’s 11 : 38 AM on day 1956 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Ephesians 3, learn one new thing –Cashmere wool, usually simply known as cashmere, is a fiber obtained from Cashmere goats and other types of goat. Common usage defines the fiber as a wool but in fact it is a hair, and this is what gives it its unique characteristics as compared to sheep’s wool.– have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign – $1 120 raised so far so grateful :) .

Recently I’ve realized if people want to go you can’t make them stay and if they don’t want to go you can’t make them leave often in life we try to keep people in our lives who really don’t want to be there but the truth is if people want to leave you can’t build a wall high enough to make them stay and besides trust me if people don’t want to be in your life then you don’t want them in your life it’s a recipe for misery.

Day 1954: Shifting Focus

What you see depends totally on what you focus on – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12 : 49 PM on day 1954 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Ephesians 1, learn one new thing –Neptune, like Uranus, is one of the two outer planets known as an “ice giant.” Made up of more ices than Jupiter and Saturn, the chilly body almost seems to be in a class by itself. Different images emphasize the features on Neptune.– have breakfast, spend time outside  and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign –  yesterday Jim Mahar donated $40 and (thanks SO MUCH  Jim your ongoing  support means the world to me :) )  which brings my total raised to $1 120 only $5 130 more to raise in 355 days (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far 🙂 ) .

Recently I started 25 Smiles – a fundraising campaign benefiting Smile Train – this time I have decided to focus solely on (and appreciate) those who are there for me instead of obsessing over the few people who are ignoring me let’s see how it goes.

Day 1952: 21 Icons season 3 episode 17: Caster Semenya

“You can’t wait for someone to push you – you have to know your game. I think that’s what made me survive.” – Caster Semenya

It’s 12 : 43 PM on day 1952 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Galatians 5, learn one new thing –Daphnia are an extremely important part of aquatic food chains. They eat primary producers such as algae, yeast, and bacteria. Daphnia are the prey of tadpoles, salamanders, newts, aquatic insects, and many types of small fish.– have breakfast, spend time outside – it’s such a beautiful day I thought it would be a shame to waste it  🙂 – and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign – $1 080 raised so far (SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has helped out and continues to help out. Thanks SO MUCH everyone I’m truly humbled by your support thank you for backing this girl who has a desire to make a difference, a laptop and pretty good Wi-Fi 🙂 ).

Last night I watched season 3 episode 17 of 21 Icons featuring athlete Caster Semenya I so admire Caster’s focus and determination.   Watch “21 Icons: Caster Semenya: Short Film” below:

Day 1951: Listen

The ability to listen is the most underrated ability that human beings are blessed with – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 12 : 15 PM on day 1951 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Galatians 4, learn one new thing –1863: The first one-dollar bill was issued as a Legal Tender Note (United States Note) with a portrait of Salmon P. Chase, the Secretary of the Treasury under President Abraham Lincoln.– go to church, have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign –  yesterday two people who prefer to remain Anonymous donated $300 between them (one donated $250 and the other donated $50) (thanks SO MUCH guys your support means the world to me 🙂 ) which brings my total raised to $1 080 only $5 170 more to raise in 358 days (SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far. 🙂 ).

Yesterday someone gave me some really awesome advice and fortunately my heart and mind were open to receiving said advice oftentimes in life when people give us advice we get defensive and turn off our ears but we would do well to listen to the smart people in our lives who only want the best for us.

Day 1950: Get Comfortable with the Uncomfortable

Get comfortable with the uncomfortable– that’s my message to myself and the world.

It’s 12: 32 PM on day 1950 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Galatians 3, learn one new thing –While he may have made peanut butter, the preparation arose in other cultures independently. The Aztecs were known to have made it from ground peanuts in the 15th century, and Marcellus Gilmore Edson was awarded U.S. Patent 306,727 (for its manufacture) in 1884, when Carver was 20.– have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign –  yesterday David Boutin donated $25 and (thanks SO MUCH  David your support means A LOT :) )  which brings my total raised to $780 only $5 470 more to raise in 359 days (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far. It’s really humbling that people from everywhere are choosing to help me reach my goal I’m just a 24-year-old living in a small town in South Africa).

Recently I’ve come to the conclusion that oftentimes doing that which makes us slightly uncomfortable gets us the results we want and the life we want. Are you getting comfortable with the uncomfortable?

Day 1947: I Believe in Me

“Believe in yourself when nobody else does.” – Mary J. Blige

It’s 12: 20 PM on day 1947 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 2 Corinthians 13,  learn one new thing –The first typewriter to be commercially successful was invented in 1868 by Americans Christopher Latham Sholes, Carlos Glidden and Samuel W. Soule in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, although Sholes soon disowned the machine and refused to use, or even to recommend it.– have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign – yesterday Madalyn Sklar donated $10  (thanks so much Madalyn your support means the world to me :) ) which brings my total raised to $715 only $5 535 more to raise in 362 days (SO GRATEFUL :) ).  A HUGE to my friend,  Pamela Eapen,  for creating new Twitter header photos and  Facebook cover photos for this campaign for everyone to use (if you would like to change your Twitter header photo or Facebook cover photo in support of this campaign get in touch with me in the comment section below and I’ll gladly send the images to you).

This morning my mom and I were talking about self-belief and how everybody just needs one person to believe in them to which she said I believe in you and I responded I already have one person, me – I believe in me which is true not in an arrogant sense but in the sense that when the chips are down I really believe I can pull through even if it’s at the last minute.

Day 1946: “Absa Prosper | Rise Again – The Story of Gaynor Young”

“I, who have died, am alive again today.” – Gaynor Young

It’s 12: 15 PM on day 1946 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 2 Corinthians 12,  learn one new thing – Hippopotamus Milk is Pink in Color. Hippopotamuses produce two unique skin secretions (so unique they’re named after the animal), “hipposudoric acid” and its analog “norhipposudoric acid”. It gives the hippopotamuses’ sweat a red coloration, commonly believed to be blood (it’s not). – have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign – yesterday Frank Burns and Justine Perry donated $15 each and Gaynor Young and Barbara Royce donated $250 together (thanks SO MUCH Frank, Justine, Gaynor and Barbara words cannot express how grateful I am to you guys 🙂 )  which brings my total raised to $705   only $5 545 more to raise in 363 days (SO HAPPY :)).

A while ago I watched “Absa Prosper | Rise Again – The Story of Gaynor Young” – Gaynor fell down an unguarded lift shaft in her 20s and lived to tell the tale – I was so moved by Gaynor’s strength and courage and I am profoundly honoured to call her my friend. Watch “Absa Prosper | Rise Again – The Story of Gaynor Young” below:
