Day 2174: 10 Things I love about Catherine Constantinides

“Maybe life isn’t about avoiding the bruises. Maybe it’s about collecting the scars to prove we showed up!” – Catherine Constantinides

It’s 12 : 33  PM on day 2174 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, have breakfast, read Zechariah 2:11, learn one new thing – The colour of the tongue is best described as black, blue or purple with a pink base/back. It is generally assumed that the front part of the tongue has such dark colouration to protect it during frequent sun exposure while eating and prevent the tongue from getting sunburned. –   and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –  raised $7 475 only  $5 025 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ) .

Day 2173: “Masterpiece” by Jessie J

I still fall on my face sometimes
And I can’t color inside the lines
Cause I’m perfectly incomplete
I’m still working on my masterpiece
And I, I wanna hang with the greatest
Got a way to go, but it’s worth the wait
No, you haven’t seen the best of me
I’m still working on my masterpiece

Jessie J, “Masterpiece”

It’s 10 : 37  AM on day 2173 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, have breakfast, read Habakkuk 3:3-4, learn one new thing – Hedgehogs are primarily nocturnal, although, depending on the species, they may be more or less active during the day. The hedgehog sleeps for a large portion of the daytime either under cover of bush, grass, rock or in a hole in the ground.-   and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –   raised $7 475 only  $5 025 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ) .

A few days ago I heard “Masterpiece” by Jessie J and I just loved the empowering message of the song. Listen to “Masterpiece” below:

Day 2172: Staying True to Your Life’s Purpose

“Look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, what do I want to do every day for the rest of my life…do that.” – Gary Vaynerchuk

It’s 11: 50  AM on day 2172 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, have breakfast, read Isaiah 6:3, learn one new thing – Yes, birds have knees (they’re often under the feathers and not easily visible), and they bend the same way our knees bend. The part of a bird’s legs that bends backwards when it walks is the ankle.

Recently I was reading my old Bucket List that I created in 2009 and although I didn’t meet the people I wanted to meet (Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama) I did do #1 (To raise $4 500 for The Water Project Inc through my Clean Water for All Campaign) and I am trying to do #10 (To be healthy and happy for the rest of my life)  and #11 (To be able to give every day for the rest of my life) it feels good to know that after all these years I have stayed true to my life’s purpose.

Day 2171: “Amos Winter: The cheap all-terrain wheelchair”

Simple technology that solves complicated problems is magic– that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 10 : 03  PM on day 2171 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, have breakfast, read 1 Chronicles 16:10, learn one new thing – A fortnight is a unit of time equal to 14 days (2 weeks). The word derives from the Old English: fēowertyne niht, meaning “fourteen nights”.-   and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    – yesterday Seenachechi  donated $250   (thanks SO MUCH  chechi your ongoing support means a lot 🙂 )  which brings the total  raised to $7 475 only  $5 025 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far 🙂   ) .

Yesterday I watched “Amos Winter: The cheap all-terrain wheelchair” I loved that this wheelchair solved a complicated problem in a simple way. Watch “Amos Winter: The cheap all-terrain wheelchair” below:

Day 2170: Love Completely

Love people with all your heart even when you know they don’t love you back as much – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 33  PM on day 2170 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, have breakfast, read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, learn one new thing – Known prey of the Megamouth Shark consists entirely of planktonic animals, including euphausiid shrimps, copepods, and the Pancake Jellyfish (Atolla vanhoeffeni). Yet most plankton is found near the surface, so it is something of a mystery how Megamouth manages to find enough to eat. –   and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –   raised $7 225 only  $5 275 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ) .

Today I realized that some people don’t love me nearly as much as I love them it’s neither good, bad, right or wrong it’s just the way things are (or maybe it’s just my perception) if I didn’t love these people I would probably just call it quits but since I do I have decided to put in as much love as is necessary to keep my relationships afloat.

Day 2169: Focus and Miracles

What we focus on is EVERYTHING  – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12 : 41  PM on day 2169 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, have breakfast, read James 2: 17, learn one new thing – Crabs that have lost legs can regenerate them over time. The leg breaks off at a special joint. Before molting, a new limb bud, with all the remaining leg segments, grows out of the joint. After molting, the new leg is smaller than the others.

Recently with the bunch of infections I’ve had I was finding it hard to be grateful but I keep realizing what we focus on is EVERYTHING when we live as though everything is a miracle things start going in our favour.

Day 2168: Show Up For Life

Show up for life even when it’s hard, even when it’s uncomfortable and even when it hurts  – that’s what I was reminded of today.

It’s 4 : 18  PM on day 2168 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, read John 8:12,  have breakfast, attend the Indian Independence Day celebration put together by our community – learned a lot about India’s struggle for independence and enjoyed watching people take part in Tug-Of-War –  and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –   raised $7 225 only  $5 275 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ) .

Today I was reminded that all of us should show up for life even when it’s hard, even when it’s uncomfortable and even when it hurts (people often give me a pass and say I can opt not to do stuff if it’s too hard but at that rate I would be laying in bed every day doing nothing because everything is hard for me).

Day 2167: Compassion, Wheelchairs and Other Stuff

Practice compassion for yourself and others – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 10 : 33  AM on day 2167 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, have breakfast, read Revelation 3:21,   and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –   raised $7 225 only $5 275 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ) .

Today I was thinking about motorised wheelchairs I wasn’t keen on getting one when I was younger because I thought it would be a failure on my part to use one when one of my hands was perfectly functional but now I realize it would be hard to push myself on a manual wheelchair with only one hand so I’m going to swallow my pride and get a motorised wheelchair in a few years (it will be easier for my family as well – they won’t have to push me around all the time).

Day 2166: To live to carefully

To live to carefully is not to live at all– that’s what I realized today.

It’s 9 : 20  AM on day 2166 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, have breakfast, read Romans 1:17  and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –   raised $7 225 only  $5 275 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ) .

Recently since my infections I’ve been so careful not to re-injure myself it’s almost ridiculous but today I realized that to live to carefully is not to live at all.

Day 2165: “This Is What It’s Like to Go Undercover in North Korea”

Freedom should never be taken for granted – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 9 : 51  AM on day 2165 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, read James 1: 27, have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –   raised $7 225 only  $5 275 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ) .

Yesterday I watched “This Is What It’s Like to Go Undercover in North Korea | Suki Kim | TED Talks” after that I was even more grateful to live in South Africa. Watch This Is What It’s Like to Go Undercover in North Korea” below:
