Day 2765: From Paraplegic To Pilot: The Extraordinary Story of Janine Shephard

“I stopped asking ‘why me’, and I started to ask ‘why not me’?” – Janine Shephard

It’s 10: 19 AM on day 2765 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Proverbs 3 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised  $13 334 only $5 415 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Two days ago I heard the story of extraordinary story of Janine Shephard who went from paraplegic to PILOT in just TWELVE MONTHS (no jokes) and I just have to share it. Watch “How to Heal a Broken Body and a Broken Spirit” below:

Day 2764: Forever and Always

Everything works out for the best– that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 12: 27 PM on day 2764 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Proverbs 2 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised  $13 334 only $5 415 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Recently I realized maybe I’m not meant to be one person’s forever and always because I’m meant to be many people’s forever and always (in the most platonic sense obviously) maybe a lot of people need me way more than one person ever will

Day 2763: My Momentary Moral Lapse

If you want to be better than most people behave than most people– that’s my message to the world.

It’s 1: 23 PM on day 2763 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Proverbs 1 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised  $13 334 only $5 415 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Today I was reminded that just because everybody’s doing something and it’s easy to do doesn’t mean it’s right thing to do I tried to justify my actions but then I asked myself would Superhero be proud of this I knew she wouldn’t be so I quickly corrected my mistake which I will never repeat because I don’t want to be like everybody else I want to be to be extraordinary and in the process make God, my family and my Superhero Catherine Constantinides proud.

Day 2762: Dream Big and Dare to Fail

“If you set your goals ridiculously high and it’s a failure, you will fail above everyone else’s success.” – James Cameron

It’s 12: 26 PM on day 2762 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Revelation 5:9 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised  $13 334 only $5 415 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Today I have a dream that’s ten sizes too big for me but because it’s for someone else I’m going to go for it and if I fail I would have done so daring greatly. Dream big and dare to fail who knows you may just succeed.

Day 2761: Broken Bodies and Broken Hearts

It’s much easier to fix a broken body than it is to fix a broken heart– that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 1: 08 PM on day 2761 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Hebrews 9:27-28 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised  $13 334 only $5 415 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Recently I realized that it’s much easier to fix a broken body than it is to fix a broken heart because if your body hurts you can take some kind of medication but when your heart is sore there’s no medication you can take (my proverbial heart is sore today).

Day 2760: Spend Time Being Kind

Time spent being kind is never wasted time – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 2: 06 PM on day 2760 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read John 1: 29 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised  $13 334 only $5 415 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Today I was reminded that time spent saying kind things and doing kind things is never wasted time because genuine kindness is the currency that buys us a place in people’s hearts and a place in people’s hearts is the closest humans will ever get to immortality.

Day 2759: Celebrating Dr. Maya Angelou

“We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated.” – Maya Angelou

It’s 11: 53 AM on day 2759 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Matthew 21:9 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised  $13 334 only $5 415 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Today would’ve been Dr. Maya Angelou’s 90th birthday and in celebration of that I’m sharing one of my favourite Maya Angelou poems, “Still I Rise”. Take a listen:

Day 2758: RIP Mama Winnie Mandela

rip,jpg

“Together, hand in hand, with our matches and our necklaces, we shall liberate this country. – Winnie Madikizela Mandela

It’s 2: 00 PM on day 2758 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,   read Zechariah 9:9 and spend time reflecting on my life -Winnie Mandela’s death has reminded me of my mortality and my purposes in life If i’m fortunate enough to live 81 years i want it to be said of me that i was a kind, generous and honest human being who tried to make a difference, change perceptions about the differently-abled and live courageously.

Yesterday I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear that a legendary anti-apartheid activist and one of South Africa’s heroines Winnie Mandela had passed away. . Thank you Mama for the endless sacrifices you have made for our beloved South Africa I feel like your strength and fearlessness is in every South African women we are your legacy and we will honour that. We LOVE YOU . Rest in peace Warrior you did more than your part

Day 2757: Love Is Letting Go

Love is a gradual process of letting go– that’ve what I’ve learned.

It’s 4 : 28 PM on day 2757 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,   read Matthew 20:18-19 , go shopping with my brother and sister for my brother’s Metric Dance suit – we ended up picking a great gray suit my baby brother looked superhandsome (i admit i’m biased he is my only brother) we also got him a blue tie, brown shoes and a  brown belt – there was a system glitch so we paid half price for the suit nobody was complaining- and go drop my sister off at the airport (she came for Easter because she’s going overseas to her 6th year elective in June) – one day i’ll be the one going places not just the one waving at the departure gate i’m not jealous just saying (leading up to my recent surgery i remember thinking I haven’t been to Paris, London or Rome yet that won’t be one of my regrets when I eventually die)

This afternoon as my sister and I helped our brother shop for his Metric Dance (last high school dance ) suit and teased him mercilessly about how handsome he looked I realized that love is a gradual process of letting go…I still remember the little boy who wouldn’t let go of dad’s leg when it was time for school but that little boy has morphed into a wonderful young man which is taking me a while to get used to but I’ll be fine.

Day 2756: Easter 2018

“Easter is meant to be a symbol of hope, renewal, and new life.” – Janine di Giovanni

It’s 9 : 55 AM on day 2756 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read about The Resurrection of Jesus  and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised  $13 334 only $5 415 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Today is Easter Sunday which is always a special day because every year on this day I’m reminded that I’m forever forgiven and forever loved regardless of what I do or don’t do God will never stop loving me and I will never be excluded I’m good enough. God’s love and grace can’t be earned just accept it and extend it to others
