My journey from utter helplessness to independence

Day 3175: Sharing It All

There’s great power in story so it’s important to share both our struggles and successes – that’s what I’ve realized

It’s 2: 38 PM on day 3175 since I started blogging and I managed to pray, read Bible, spend time outside and work on my 28 For 28 Campaign benefiting charity:water  – thanks to Anon’s $50 donation we’ve now raised $2 872 of $28 000 with 31 days to go

Today I was reminded that there’s great power in story so it’s important to share both our struggles and successes I know it’s tempting to share with the world only our successes but that would be disingenuous on our part – you know that before every pinnacle in your life there was a really low point – it’s important to share both your highs and lows so that those currently experiencing lows have something to hope for

My Fight to Keep My Bodily Autonomy and Dignity #CerebralPalsy

The hardness of life is what make it so beautiful – that’s what I’ve realized

It’s 4: 18 PM on day 3174 since I started blogging and I managed to pray, read Bible, spend time outside and work on my 28 For 28 Campaign benefiting charity:water  – we’ve now raised $2 822 of $28 000 with 32 days to go

Today as I was screaming for our housekeeper to take me to pee (she was outside) I felt again the hardness of my own life -when going to the bathroom becomes an event you know things are atypical – I’ve been told many times we can put you in a diaper, maybe pee in a bedpan, we can put you on pills to stop your period and while I do appreciate the suggestions and know they are meant to help me I won’t wear a diaper (I know when I need to go and am capable of telling people so), I won’t use a bedpan and I most certainly will not take pills to stop my period…I will fight to the death to keep my dignity and autonomy over my body

Day 3170: #AfricaDay and Morocco’s Illegal Occupation of the Western Sahara #StandInTheSand

“There can be no post-colonial Africa until there is a post-colonial Western Sahara.” – Lindiwe Sisulu

It’s 8: 17 PM on day 3170 since I started blogging and I managed to pray, read a bible verse and spend time with my nearest and dearest

Today is Africa Day and while I’m proud to be African and we have much to celebrate I would like to call attention once again to the illegal occupation of the Western Sahara by Morocco (can you imagine fleeing from war to what you thought would be a temporary refugee camp only to still be there 43 YEARS LATER?) the United Nations recognizes the Western Sahara as a country separate from Morocco but the referendum the UN promised in 1991 is yet to take place and why because Morocco has powerful allies at the UN. To the UN: I know for a fact that it does not take 28 YEARS to organize a referendum please I  once again BEG of you put your selfish interests aside and think of the Saharawi children who are growing up in the blistering heat on the borders of Algeria with less than the basics.

Day 3169: Choosing To Love Life

Sometimes the love of life is not a feeling but rather a choice– that’s what I have realized

It’s 7: 08 PM on day 3169 since I started blogging and I managed to pray, spend time outside, work on my 28 For 28 Campaign benefiting charity:water  – we’ve now raised $2 822 of $28 000 with 37 days to go – and go to physio.

Today I have many reasons not to love life but I’m choosing to love life if only for the mere fact that my family members, friends and I are alive and relatively healthy

Day 3168: The Lessons That Keep Coming Back

The lessons you don’t learn come back to you– that’s what I have realized

It’s 2: 23 PM on day 3168 since I started blogging and I managed to pray, spend time outsiside and work on my 28 For 28 Campaign benefiting charity:water  – we’ve now raised $2 822 of $28 000 with 38 days to go

Today I was reminded that the lessons you don’t learn come back to you I keep being taught that all I can do is all I can do

Day 3167: “Chapters” by Brett Young

Truth is that we all got stories
Gotta fail on your way to glory
Takes time tryna get it right
But every future has a past
And right now I can hear God laughin’
Guess he must have heard my plans
And my hopes, thought it was a joke
Gave me more than I could ask

Brett Young, “Chapters”

It’s 1: 29 PM on day 3167 since I started blogging and I managed to pray, spend time outside and work on my 28 For 28 Campaign benefiting charity:water  – we’ve now raised $2 822 of $28 000 with 39 days to go

Recently I heard “Chapters” by Brett Young I love the song so much I have to share. Listen to “Chapters” by Brett Young below:

Day 3166: Make Beautiful Moments

Life is made in moments not days– that’s what I have realized

It’s 1: 56 PM on day 3166 since I started blogging and I managed to pray, read Bible verse, spend time outside   and work on my 28 For 28 Campaign benefiting charity:water  – thanks to Joe’s $56 donation we’ve now raised $2 822 of $28 000 with 40 days to go

Today reflecting on my life I was shocked to realize I remembered specific moments not entire days. Life is made in moments not days so make beautiful moments.
