My journey from utter helplessness to independence

Day 2491: Me and a Whatsapp Message

It’s the little things that make you love life madly – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12 : 32 PM on day 2491 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, have breakfast,  read Amos 5: 24   and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised to $1 750 only $10 750 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

This morning I typed a Whatsapp message from my smartphone  (because I have Cerebral Palsy I have poor fine motor skills which makes using things like a touchscreen a mammoth task) I feel a bit ridiculous celebrating a Whatsapp message but if you saw how much time and effort it took me to type a six letter word on my smartphone trust me you would be celebrating too.

Day 2490: Exercising my Religious Freedom

Make use of all the freedoms you have – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 1 : 17 PM on day 2490 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Acts 4:19-20,   and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised to $1 750 only $10 750 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

Today I chose to go to church knowing that many Christians in other countries don’t have the freedom to do so sometimes we forget how fortunate we are to have the freedoms we have and so we take them for granted.

Day 2489: Your Power Lies Within

“If you’re nothing without the suit you shouldn’t have it.” – Tony Stark, Spiderman: Homecoming

It’s 11 : 20 AM on day 2489 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Isaiah 6:8,  have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised to $1 750 only $10 750 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

Yesterday I watched Spiderman: Homecoming and although I thought the movie was childish Tony Stark said something to Peter Parker that changed my life If you’re nothing without the suit you shouldn’t have it I realize it’s not my wheelchair that makes me special but rather how I am choosing to use it, who I am and who I am becoming while sitting on it.

Day 2488: Don’t Force It

Everything that’s meant to be will be without you having to force it– that’s my message to the world.

It’s 11 : 44 AM on day 2488 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 2 Acts 18:9-10, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –  yesterday Giving Miracles donated $150 (thanks so much to her) which brings the total raised to $1 750 only $10 750 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot

Today  I realized that everything that’s meant to be will be in its own time without you having to force it which is not to say I won’t continue to work hard I will I just won’t be in so much angst and trying to force a particular outcome

Day 2487: Be Helpful But Don’t Be Used

Always be helpful but be careful not to be used– that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 05 PM on day 2487 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Romans 12: 9,  have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised to $1 600 only $10 900 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

This morning I realized my helpful nature makes it possible for people to use me -some people find out what I do (which they usually do from my very proud father even though I’ve asked him to please not tell anyone ) and it’s like they start seeing Dollar signs and a short while later you best believe some of them will show up at the door with an elaborate charity idea that they want me to get funding for – I’ve learned to politely say no and although I often feel bad about it I do so because I know  that 50% of people get into the non-profit sector either to boost their egos or worse to make a profit I refuse to be a party to that.

Day 2486: Build Relationships

Build relationships they last longer than things– that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 29 PM on day 2486 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Galatians 5:13,  have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised to $1 600 only $10 900 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

Recently I’ve realized most people acquire things while I find immense joy in building relationships with people from different walks of life I read somewhere that one’s 20’s is about building relationships and networks I’m finding that to be so true.

Day 2485: TIME – The Most Valuable Present?

T.I.M.E is how love is really spelt – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 11 : 20 AM on day 2485 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 2 Corinthians 3:17, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –  yesterday Roy uncle and Betty aunty donated $100 (thanks so much to them) which brings the total raised to $1 600 only $10 900 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot

Today I was reminded that T.I.M.E is how love is really spelt we often try to buy people’s affections and attention forgetting that our presence is actually the most valuable present.

Day 2484: “Amen” by Hunter Hayes

Well, I’ve been searching, I’ve been praying

I’ve been hurt, and I’ve been patient

I’ve been lost and found again

Waiting for my amen!

Looking at you now I believe

Someone up there’s looking out for me

And I know how my prayer ends

Baby, you’re my amen!

– Hunter Hayes,  “Amen”

It’s 10 : 52 AM on day 2484 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Ephesians 3:12, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – Julie and Don donated $100 (thanks so much to them) which brings the total raised to $1 500 only $11 000 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

Recently I heard “Amen” by Hunter Hayes the lyrics are so true sometimes we find our faith through people. Listen to “Amen” by Hunter Hayes below:

Day 2483: The Ridiculous and Not-So-Ridiculous Things I Pray For

My life is really a tale of two-halves – that’s what I keep being reminded of.

It’s 12 : 27 PM on day 2483 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Psalm 119:45,  have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised to $1 400 only $11 100 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

This morning I was reminded that my life is really a tale of two-halves one minute I’m praying that God helps me find people who will be willing to help me heal kids with clubfoot and the next minute I’m praying (literally praying) to have a pain-free bowel movement (all the doctors in my life have tried to get me on laxatives but I don’t want to be dependent on it forevermore)  it almost seems unfair that I’m the one trying so hard to make a difference some days I just want to punch a hole in the wall and cry a thousand tears but I choose to get up every day and try because i know that life is not a chore it’s a gift.

Day 2482: Be Mushy Sometimes

It’s okay to be mushy sometimes – that’s what I’m realizing.

It’s 2 : 28 PM on day 2482 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Isaiah 61:1, go visit people, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised to $1 400 only $11 100 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

Recently I’ve realized it’s okay to be mushy sometimes I’m usually very measured in my expression of emotion but I’m beginning to understand that sometimes it’s okay to be a big bowl of mush because people need to know that I love and care about them.
