My journey from utter helplessness to independence

Day 2652: Focus on Love

Focus on love and ignore the hate and angst– that’s what I’ve learned.

It’s 12 : 33  PM on day 2652 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  pray,  read Isaiah 25:9, and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –  A HUGE thanks to Bithun Babu donated $80  which brings the total raised to  $5 306 only $7 194 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot.

Recently I’ve learnt to focus on love and ignore the hate and angst if you focus on hate and angst it will change the lens through which we see the world.

Day 2650: The Price of Trying Something New

The price of trying something new is the possibility of doing or saying the wrong thing– that’s what I realized recently.

It’s 10 : 30    AM on day 2650 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  pray,  read  Isaiah 9:6 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –-raised $5 226 only $7 274 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot (thanks to everyone who has helped out so far).

Recently I realized that the price of trying something new is the possibility of doing or saying the wrong thing but doing or saying the wrong thing with good intent is better than doing nothing at all.

Day 2649: Great Moments and Me

Great moments don’t just happen you have to create them – that’s what 2017 has taught me.

It’s 12 : 10  PM on day 2649 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  pray,  read Jeremiah 23:5-6 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –  A HUGE thanks to Zarina Walele of Zarina Walele Attorneys donated $100  which brings the total raised to  $5 226 only $7 274 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot.

As I look back on 2017 I realize that its greatest lesson to me has been that great moments don’t just happen you have to create them – all my favourite moments of 2017 I created with effort and intent whilst remain connected to God.

Day 2648: The President’s Keepers: Those Keeping Zuma in Power and Out of Prison by Jacques Pauw

“A pattern of appointing cronies and loyalists in key positions emerged at the outset of Zuma’s presidency. He was mindful that he could still be brought to book for corruption in the future, and set in motion a shadow security state that would undermine the independence of the police and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).”
― Jacques Pauw, The President’s Keepers: Those Keeping Zuma in Power and Out of Prison

It’s 1 : 40    PM on day 2648 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  pray,  read  Malachi 3:1 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –-raised $5 126 only $7 374 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot (thanks to everyone who has helped out so far).

Yesterday I finally finished reading The President’s Keepers: Those Keeping Zuma in Power and Out of Prison by Jacques Pauw the book is about how South Africa’s current President, Jacob Zuma, has used his position to create a shadow state in order to feed his greed and keep himself out of prison I was devastated to find out the President of my country has sold my country to get rich while ordinary South Africans languish in poverty it’s just not right, it’s not fair… it reminded me of the last line in Animal Farm “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

Day 2647: Why Am I Not Good Enough” by Olivia Vella

“Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.” – Robert Frost

It’s 12 :  26  PM on day 2647 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  pray,  read Genesis 22:18  and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –-raised $5 126 only $7 374 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot (thanks to everyone who has helped out so far).

A while ago I heard “Why Am I Not Good Enough” – a powerful poem by 13-year-old Olivia Vella – the poem is so incredible that even though I heard it months ago I still haven’t forgotten it so I’m sharing it. Listen to “Why Am I Not Good Enough” by Olivia Vella below:

Day 2646: The Best Kind of Kindness

The best kind of kindness is kindness that takes effort– that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 1 : 16  PM on day 2646 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  read ,  and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – A HUGE thanks to Sebastian Schütte, Founder of the PandaCrew, donated $100 yesterday  which brings the total raised to  $5 126 only $7 374 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot

Today I realized that the best kind of kindness is kindness that takes effort because you know how hard you worked and how much love you put into it.

Day 2645: Feelings Vs. Commitments

Feelings fade commitment doesn’t – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 12 : 42  PM on day 2645 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  pray,  read John 1:9-10 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –-raised $5 026 only $7 474 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot (thanks to everyone who has helped out so far).

Today being my parents 27th wedding anniversary I’ve been thinking a lot about the differences between the West and the East when it comes to marriage my uncle said it best when he said In the West people marry the one they love while in the East people love the one they marry it’s not a choice I think I would make because I’ve lived in the Western World all my life but there’s something to be said for marrying for something other than feelings.

Day 2644: Heavenly Pancake House Review

Pancakes and I are a match made in Heaven – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 1 : 19  PM on day 2644 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  read John 1:1-3, had breakfast at Heavenly Pancake House and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – A HUGE thanks to Jerrinchachen and Pramela Ramesh who donated $25  each yesterday  which brings the total raised to  $5 026 only $7 474 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot

This morning my family and I had breakfast at the Heavenly Pancake House I’m IN LOVE with their Cinnamon Pancakes usually whenever we go out I never finish whatever I order but I actually finished my pancakes the view of the beach was also great even on such a gloomy day. Thanks to Salomie and her team at Heavenly Pancake House for the great food and great service (I’ll be back for more pancakes Salomie 🙂 ). Anyone in East London, South Africa can find  the Heavenly Pancake House at 10 Deary Dr, Gonubie – highly recommend it.

Day 2643: KFC’s Add Hope Campaign, Recognizing Opportunities and Knowing Your Values

Opportunities to do good are everywhere you just have to be observant – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 2 : 15  PM on day 2643 of my journey towards independence and I managed to watch TV with my sister,  pray,  read Genesis 49:9-10, have breakfast, go with my parents to drop my sister at the airport – she’s off to a wedding for the weekend – and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet -raised $4 976 only $7 524 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot (thanks to everyone who has helped out so far).

Yesterday my sister, my brother, my niece (cousin’s daughter) and I were at KFC and I once again noticed the “Add Hope” signage – in every KFC in South Africa customers have an option to pay extra to help feed hungry kids – and my sister turned to me knowingly and asked how many kids do you want to feed? to which I replied three – one for every Varghese present – sometimes you don’t have to go out of your way to make a difference sometimes the opportunities are right in front of your eyes but in order to recognize them you need to know who you are and what your values are (I know I am a Varghese and I know I stand for kindness, generosity, compassion, honesty, loyalty, justice and fairness and I carry that with me every moment of every day)
