My journey from utter helplessness to independence

Day 2673: Instagram and Me

Sometimes it’s okay to go off your goals list and do things that you didn’t plan to do – that’s what I keep learning

It’s 3 : 49 PM on day 2673 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Romans 6:6-7, set up my instagram account with the help of my niece Shannon (apparently it’s the place to be)  and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $6 816 only $5 684 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

Today is Day 2 of my server maintenance which means I can’t publish my blog posts it’s been strange not being able to do something I’ve been doing every day for 8 years but  I’ve been doing something very constructive with my time (my niece helped me get Instagram LOL [my username is: @nisha_v360]

Day 2672: Faith is an armour not a stick

Faith is an armour not a stick – that’s my message to the world

It’s 1 : 37 PM on day 2672 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Ezekiel 11:19 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $6 816 only $5 684 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

This morning I realized religion should be used as an armour not a stick – a while ago I told someone that I didn’t go to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve and it was like I committed murder or something I had never before felt so judged and I think that’s why some people are leaving church and religion these days because when others don’t practice our faith the way we do we judge them to no end I go to church less frequently than I used to but that doesn’t mean I am any less Christian than I was or that I love God any less I just express my faith through my actions and in the way I exist in this world

Day 2671: Start Looking Up

“Prayer should be our first response rather than our last resort.” – Unknown

It’s 12 : 21 PM on day 2671 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $6 816 only $5 684 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

Today I’m feeling flat I’ve done everything I can think of and nothing’s moving (I’m grateful that I am alive and healthy and that my family and friends are alive and healthy too) from today onwards I’m going to stop looking every which way and start looking up only God has ever been able to help me

Day 2670: Congratulations to the Class of 2017. #MatricResults2017

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.”― Henry David Thoreau

It’s 12 : 32 PM on day 2670 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Lamentations 3:22-23 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $6 816 only $5 684 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

This morning Matrics (12th graders in South Africa ) found out their final examination results some did well while others have an opportunity to try again this year but to all I say in the end it’s not your report that defines but rather the person you choose to be from this day on. Be in this world the kind of human you want to see and while some people will treat you badly as you go through life remember that freedom is what you do with what has been done to you. Congratulations to the Class of 2017 I’m so very proud of all of you.

Day 2669: One Day I Will Be Lame No More (I live in hope)

I’m not broken just different – that’s my message to the world

It’s 1 : 38 PM on day 2669 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Colossians 3:9-10 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $6 816 only $5 684 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

This morning a well-intended couple who happened to be Jehovah Witness came by, read from Isaiah and told me one day when Jesus returned I would be lame no more  (I literally burst out laughing thinking not even Jesus can cure my lame(uncool)ness if looks could kill I would have been dead my mother was not impressed)- I don’t know why people assume that I would want a different life than the one I currently have sure it’s challenging and frustrating but it’s also beautiful. I’m not broken just different. God loves me as I am if he wanted to cure me he would have done so on one of the million occasions I prayed to be able to walk when I was a child.

Day 2668: Fill Your Days With Kindness

Fill my days with kindness – that’s my plan.

It’s 12 : 34 PM on day 2668 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Psalm 33:3 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $6 816 only $5 684 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

This year I plan to consciously fill my every day with kindness it won’t always money but whatever I do on any given day will be done with the intention of bringing love, laughter and light into other people’s lives…it’s going to be magical I can just feel it.

Day 2667: You can’t teach some scars

“You can’t teach some scars.” – Prince Harry

It’s 1 : 53 PM on day 2667 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Isaiah 65:17,  have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –   A HUGE thanks to  who donated Tess Thomas who donated $200   which brings the total raised to  $6 816 only $5 684 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot.

Today something happened which made me realize that because I have been left out by so many different people on so many different occasions I notice instantly when people are feeling left out and I’m able to fix it…you can’t teach some scars.

Day 2666: 2018 Goals

“The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals.” – Melody Beattie

  4. Raise $5 884 more for my 50 New Feet campaign benefiting MiracleFeet by June 17th 2018 which when added to the $6 616 already raised will be enough to provide 50 children with clubfoot treatment
  5. Call at least 2 people ( related or non-related) at least once in three months to say hi or thank you [I spoke to 8 people some relatated some not since the begining of the year as a direct result of this goal i called them or they called me but i really wanted to speak to them (must call one more friend before Sept)]
  6. Every day be the best SuperSidekick to Superhero Catherine Constantinides (she’s the best, most hardworking real-life Superhero I’ve ever met she totally deserves a SuperSidekick and I’m the only I trust to do the job properly – she totally deserves me) [i’m doing]
  7. Publish my book Defying the odds: Where there’s a wheel, there’s a way
  8. Go Hot-Air Ballooning (I did some research and found out that the major hot-air ballooning operators here in South Africa won’t take me because they don’t have wheelchair-accessible hot-air balloons but darn it I’ve ziplined and paraglided I refuse to believe that there’s  nobody in this country  who can help to make this happen… mark my words I WILL BE THE FIRST South African in a wheelchair to go hot-air ballooning in South Africa I don’t know how, when or who will help me but I can tell you it will happen somehow because I am Nisha Varghese and impossible DOES NOT apply to me) [I spoke to my physiotherapist about this and she said if i go on a normal hot-air balloon, which are the only kind available in South Africa, i won’t be able to see anything because i’ll ether be seated or carried so i dont thing i want to do it anymore]

  18. Learn one interesting fact every day [don’t do it every day like I should]
  19. Tell my life-story in front of a large crowd pf people (I have major stage-fright but I know if I just spoke in front of a large crowd once it would never again be an issue… I don’t want to roll through life scared )
