My journey from utter helplessness to independence

Day 2737: Be Better Than How You’re Treated

Be better than how you’re treated – that’s my message to the world

It’s 11 :  39 AM on day 2737 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Numbers 6:24-26 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $12 559 only $6 191 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 75 kids with clubfoot (thanks so much to everyone who has helped out so far).

Yesterday I was reminded that it’s always important to be better than how you’re treated I’m sometimes in a position to help people who once ignored me and I grab most opportunities to do so not because they necessarily deserve it but because that’s who I am (if I ignore people because they once ignored me what makes me any different from them?)

Day 2736: Some Get Wedding Pictures I Get Hospital Pictures

Sometimes the things we say lightly are the truest things – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 12 :  24 PM on day 2736 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read 2 Samuel 22:4 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $12 559 only $6 191 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 75 kids with clubfoot (thanks so much to everyone who has helped out so far).

This morning I was thinking about something I said to my mother while I was in hospital I said some people my age get wedding pictures I get hospital pictures I meant to lighten the mood with something that in reality breaks my heart my mother was visibly heartbroken I saw it on her face and heard it in the cracks in her voice I now regret the joke that wasn’t actually a joke because now my mom really realizes that I understand and ache for the things I may never have I thought she would forget my words but a few days later when she thought I was sleeping she told my dad what I said (I suppose married people have to tell each other things but I feel embarrassed that my dad  knows that I know and think about marriage, sex and the happily-ever-after-life I think before my joke my parents just assumed that because I am different issues of marriage and children were not in my train of thought but actually sometimes  I think about Saturday mornings where little feet would tip-toe into the bedroom I share with my significant other to have with pillow fights with us and then I snap out of it every time a little heartbroken after which I get back to trying to make the world a better place for all the world’s children… so beautiful yet so heart-breaking),

Day 2735: Fear Has Nothing On Me

This morning I will make my first non-medical outing since my surgery on February 22nd I live in hope that I don’t accidentally further injury myself but whatever happens I know I can’t live in a bubble my whole life treating my body like breakable glass.

Last night I surpassed my 50 New Feet Campaign goal (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far 🙂 ) since there’s so much time left before the end of the campaign on June 17th 2018 I have decided to  to try and raise enough money to help MiracleFeet treat 25 more kids with Clubfoot (which would add up to a total of 75 kids treated ) so by June 17th 2018 I’m hoping to raise $18 750. If you would like to contribute to my new goal of sponsoring Clubfoot treatments for 25 more kids log on to https://www.crowdrise.com/50newfeet  and make a donation (thank you so much in advance).

Last night I didn’t sleep well at all (some nights are better than others -even though I sleep with a pillow between my feet to prevent pressing on my toe sometimes said pillow squashes my toe which is acutely uncomfortable since I have a screw in my toe ) in this this moment I’m so tired I and yet I still think to myself how wonderful  it is to be to be alive and to have another opportunity to make a difference.

Day 2732: 4 Things Every Future Woman Should Know #InternationalWomensDay

“Any time women come together with a collective intention, it’s a powerful thing. Whether it’s sitting down making a quilt, in a kitchen preparing a meal, in a club reading the same book, or around the table playing cards, or planning a birthday party, when women come together with a collective intention, magic happens. “ – Phylicia Rashad

It’s 1 : 56  PM on day 2732 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  read  Daniel 10:12 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – A HUGE thanks to  Anonymous who donated $250  which brings the total raised to  $9 156 only $3 344 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot.

Today is International Women’s Day and in honour of that I would like to in part my little wisdom to all the little girls in the world who will grow up to be women in the future, especially my 10-month old niece Maya.

4 Things Every Future Woman Should Know

  1. You are enough – you don’t have to be anything other than who are. All that you are and will become is enough for those you love and it’s also enough for the world.
  2. There are enough opportunities in the world for every person who is willing to work to succeed – you don’t have to grind another woman down to elevate yourself. More can be achieved through collaboration than through competition
  3. You are more than your body – in today’s world there will be some backward people who will tell you that you are here to be seen and not heard speak your mind loud and proud anyway and invest in knowledge so that when you open your mouth people will know that with that pretty face and beautiful heart also comes a brilliant mind
  4. Find your tribe – It’s very important to surround yourself with people who match your values. Everybody needs someone to look up to my someone is Superhero Catherine Constantinides because she is kind, honest, courageous, hard-working, humble and generous (the way she treats people is something to behold she makes everybody feel like the most important people on the planet – whenever I’m with her I find myself just watching her interact with people hoping she doesn’t notice that I can’t stop staring)

Day 2731: I Miss Outside

“Just living is not enough… one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.” – Hans Christian Andersen

It’s 1 :  39 PM on day 2731 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read  Psalm 25:9 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $8 906 only $3 594 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot (thanks so much to everyone who has helped out so far).

Today as I looked out at the beautiful day through our dining room window I thought I miss outside I don’t leave the house expect to go to my doctor’s appalments because I have a screw in my toe and a bandage on my arm I know it’s for my own health (till the 19th ) and there are plenty of books for me to read and things for me to do in the house but I love nature I want to be outside to feel the sun and the wind… I want to be outside to feel life

Day 2730: I Know My Strength In God

strength

Life tests you to show you your own strength in God – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 12 : 42  PM on day 2730 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read  Proverbs 14:27 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $8 906 only $3 594 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot (thanks so much to everyone who has helped out so far).

Yesterday I went to my orthopedic surgeon to have my wounds checked I now have a new set of bandages on both my right hand and left foot (they left my heel uncovered this time) but that wasn’t the most painful part before dressing me with the new bandage I had to get the stitches on my wrist pulled all I wanted to do was scream louder than I’ve ever screamed but mom was freaking out, my dad was visibly uncomfortable though he didn’t say anything and my 17-year-old brother was just standing there watching  and at times wincing (there was a point during the pulling of the stitches that my brother caught me watching the nurse pulling the stitches and said don’t look after which he took his hands and covered my eyes it was just so sweet it makes me cry even now as I remember it) and so because everybody around me was visibly traumatized I chose to suppress my internal screams and keep it together. Nobody will ever know how much pain I was in yesterday because not a tear fell from my eyes but I will forever know the depth and breadth of my strength when I’m connected to God.

Day 2729: Wound Check Day

Have no expectation of any situation and you’ll never be disappointed – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 11  PM on day 2729 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  read 2 Chronicles 7:14 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – A HUGE thanks to  Stan Faryna, author of Francesco Augustine Bernadone  who donated $50  which brings the total raised to  $8 906 only $3 594 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot.

This afternoon I return to my orthopaedic surgeon’s office to have my wounds changed he will either get rid of my bandages completely or simply change them either way I promise myself I won’t get disappointed he knows best and whatever happens will be for the best (I’m alive and healthy everything else is a bonus).

Day 2728: The Wisdom of Sundays by Oprah Winfrey

“Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could be any different.” It’s accepting the past for what it was and using this moment and this time to help yourself move forward. —Oprah”

― Oprah Winfrey, The Wisdom of Sundays: Life-Changing Insights from Super Soul Conversations

It’s 12 : 03 PM on day 2728 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read  Matthew 6: 33 and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised  $8 556 only $3 644 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot (thanks so much to everyone who has helped out so far).

Last night I finished reading The Wisdom of Sundays: Life-Changing Insights from Super Soul Conversations I learned so much about life from this book imagine learning from some of the wisest people on the planet that’s what this book gives you I love in particular page 94 in which Timothy Shriver talks about the tyranny of the word normal and sometimes how where you want to go is not necessarily where you’ll find meaning. This book is for anyone looking to learn and grow as a person I loved it.
