My journey from utter helplessness to independence

Day 2836: My Cast of Months Gone By and a Reminder of my Spirit Unbreakable

Those born out of the fire don’t wilt in the sun  – my mother’s words to me/Indian Proverb.

It’s 12 : 36 PM on day 2836 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray while sitting outside – there’s something about praying in the middle of the swirling wind that’s truly beautiful – the wind was unrelenting leaves were landing on my head and yet I sat there praying until I was done – m read a Bible verse, have breakfast and listen to music – I think I am going to pause from major fundraising projects for a while I refuse to do the first thing that comes along because I’m currently in-between (every project I do I do because I believe strongly about something and that’s what carries me through the rough days so I’ll never undertake a project because I’m bored or because I feel like I have to do something)

Today laying on my bed I remembered the cast being taken off my right arm and me wanting to bring it home so that I would have something to remember the experience by (my dad told the nurse to ignore me and trash it) I was annoyed it at the time but now I realize I didn’t need the cast because I will forever have my scars, a permanent reminder of my spirit unbreakable and my desire to live even while feeling immense pain.

Day 2835: 18th – 25 June Goals

Set goals, achieve them and repeat – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 48 PM on day 2835 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, and chill – i’m not so feeling hot

Last Monday I set some goals and today I will again be evaluating myself to measure my progress and I’ll be setting some goals for the coming week as well. Take a look:

Day 2834: #50NewFeet Campaign Over. THANK YOU ALL

end

Chapters end to make way for new ones – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 8 : 21 AM on day 2834 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised $15 219

Today marks the twelfth  month anniversary of my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet  which means my campaign ends today. 124 people made donations to this campaign and between us we’ve donated $15 219 – enough to provide clubfoot treatments for 60 kids  I am SO THANKFUL AND BLOWN AWAY by the support from groups and individuals as well.

Highlights of this campaign

  • Seenachechi asked everybody attending her daughter’s baptism to donate to my campaign instead of bringing gifts (thank you Seenachechi you inspire me to be more generous in my own life – one day I’m going to come to Australia to give you a hug [seriously I don’t know many people who would go to so much effort for someone they’ve never met in person])
  • My cousin asked ALL HER FRIENDS to donate to my campaign instead of bringing gifts to my niece Maya’s first birthday party – that party for a one-year-old changed lives (thank you Tinuchechi you are still always there to help me even from an ocean away I will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS hold that in my heart).
  • The St. Thomas Orthodox Congregation of Southern Africa, the church that I belong to, asked the congregation to bring their firstfruits to church and the vegetables were auctioned to raise $500 for my campaign (thank you to Fr. James, his wonderful wife Bernice for organizing this and to the whole congregation for their incredible support. You guys awe AWESOME)
  • OmniMed Pty (Ltd) donated $3 344 (I had emailed a friend telling her I still had $3 344 to raise to reach my goal and asked for fundraising suggestions instead I got a reply back saying she had spoken to her father and that they would be donating  the entire remaining amount [I nearly fall off my wheelchair – it reminded me of the human capacity for generosity])

Day 2833: Youth Day 2018 #YouthDay

“Each one of us can make a difference. Together we make change.” – Barbara Mikulski

It’s 10 : 07 AM on day 2833 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – A HUGE thanks to  Stan Faryna, author of Francesco Augustine Bernadone   who donated $50  yesterday and Sharon D Agostino  (Founder of  SayItForward) donated $500   which brings the total raised to  $15 219  only $3 531 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot.

Today being Youth Day here in South Africa – a day that honours the youth of 1976 who fought against the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in local schools – with every year that passes this day grows in significance for me. Thanks to the youth of 1976 for their sacrifice.

Thanks Julie for sending me the movie

Day 2831: Mistakes and Me

Mistakes are proof you’re trying something new – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 1 :22 PM on day 2831 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised $14 669 only $4 081 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Today I tried something new and I made a giant-size mistake  but you know we live and we learn I’m trying to correct my mistake.

Day 2830: A Shift In Priorities

If my family is not okay I’m not okay –that’s what I realized today

I’m taking a day off today I can’t focus on much.

Yesterday I planned to write a completely different post until midnight last night when my sister called saying she’s in pain (I can’t get into details) today we found out why and suddenly even though I know it’s a minor problem nothing else matters I’m staring at whatapp for an update (time has never before moved so so slowly). Please God give her healing.

Day 2829: Room by Emma Donoghue

room

“You know who you belong to, Jack?”

“Yeah.”

“Yourself.”

He’s wrong, actually, I belong to Ma.”

― Emma Donoghue, Room

It’s 12 : 01 PM on day 2829 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised $14 669 only $4 081 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Two days ago I finished reading Room by Emma Donoghue – a novel about a mother’s quest to free herself and her son from their captor and a glimpse of their lives after gaining freedom – it’s a sweet story of a mother’s love but honestly it gave me the creeps because I know women get abducted daily worldwide. This book is well-written but reader discretion is advised (if you get scared easily or get really emotional when reading this book might not be for you).

Day 2828: 11th – 18th June Goals

Some weeks are better than others– that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 12 : 08 PM on day 2828 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised $14 669 only $4 081 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Day 2827: What It Means to Make A Difference

Making a difference is more than just donating money or things it’s choosing to make choices that are not detrimental to people or planet– that’s what I realized.

It’s 12 : 04 PM on day 2827 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –raised $14 669 only $4 081 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

Yesterday I decided that every day I would wake up and do one thing to make a difference but then I thought how? I don’t have money to give away or to buy things every day today I realized that making a difference is more than just donating money or things it’s choosing to make choices that are not detrimental to people or planet…. It’s choosing to eat suitable fish, it’s spending less time in the shower, it’s giving a compliment to a hard-working person… it’s being conscious of the fact that every living thing is connected to every other living thing and the Earth we all share
