My journey from utter helplessness to independence

Day 3005 : The Blessing of #Loadshedding

Only in darkness do we appreciate light – that’s what I’ve realized

It’s 9: 27 AM on day 3005 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, send time outside, read a Bible verse and do some work

Yesterday as I sat in the dark experiencing loadsheding  – the South African power grid is overwhelmed so for two hours daily every suburb, at different times, doesn’t have electricity – I thought about the millions of South Africans who don’t have electricity AT ALL. Thank you sincerely Eskom for reminding me for a few hours daily how millions of South Africans live every hour. WE MUST WORK TO CREATE A MORE EQUAL SA 4 ALL #MyFight

Day 3004 : Reading minds through body language | Lynne Franklin |

It’s 10: 41 AM on day 3004 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, send time outside, read a Bible verse and do some work

Recently I watched a Ted Talk titled “Reading minds through body language” and I was amazed at how much you can learn about someone from their body language. Watch “Reading minds through body language” below:

Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience is by far the most intellectual book i’ve ever read so if you open this book best be prepared to concentrate for a sustained period.

Day 3002 : Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

“Contrary to what we usually believe, moments like these, the best moments in our lives, are not the passive, receptive, relaxing times—although such experiences can also be enjoyable, if we have worked hard to attain them. The best moments usually occur when a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile. Optimal experience is thus something that we make happen. For a child, it could be placing with trembling fingers the last block on a tower she has built, higher than any she has built so far; for a swimmer, it could be trying to beat his own record; for a violinist, mastering an intricate musical passage. For each person there are thousands of opportunities, challenges to expand ourselves.”

― Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience

It’s 12: 29 PM on day 3002 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read the  Bible and do some work

Yesterday after weeks of reading I finished reading Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi it’s a book that describes the state of Flow – basically that in-the-zone feeling when you’re doing something and everything else fades into the background – and how we can all achieve it. Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience is by far the most intellectual book I’ve ever read so if you open this very interesting book best be prepared to concentrate for a sustained period of time.

Day 3001 : Hello December

Time is something you cannot get back so do use it wisely– that’s my message to the world

It’s 10: 47 AM on day 3001 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read the  Bible and do some work

Today is the first day of December and all I can say is WOW time waits for no person and as we close off 2018 and head into 2019 my heart is filled with the upmost gratitude for the remarkable people I’ve met and the things I’ve learned (about myself and the world) – I’ll never ever forget the extreme pain of having the surgical stitches on my arm taken out (on a pain scale of one to a billion that afternoon my pain was a billion and one) needless to say I now know I can survive almost anything (touch wood).

Day 3000 : To the I’ll-pray-for-you people

The people you unconsciously pity might be living great lives – that’s my message to the world

It’s 1: 49 PM on day 3000 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, send time outside, read a Bible verse and do some work

Today my thoughts turned to the I’ll-pray-for-you people: To the I’ll-pray-for-you people you may be surprised to know that I don’t even pray for me (I mean I do but not for the reasons one might think – I pray to be good, kind and honest even when it’s hard) I mostly pray for other people I pray for children in hospitals, for the elderly in their autumn years, for the babies at Breath of Life to be adopted by families as loving as the Riellys or reunited with capable relatives, for people in Syria and the #WesternSahara, for the health, happiness and success of my family, friends and my Superheroes too…i don’t pray to walk because the fact that I can’t walk is not the centre of my life nor is it the definition of me.

Day 2999: Outdo Yourselves in Kindness

Even if all you do in life is love you’re living well – that’s my message to the world

It’s 12 : 45 PM on day 2999 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, send time outside, read a Bible verse and do some work

Today I was reminded that even if all you do in life is love you’re living well – my favourite thing to do daily is be kind and spread love (sometimes it costs money but most times it doesn’t ) it makes me feel good inside to outdo myself in kindness. Outdo yourselves in kindness

Day 2998: “Rewrite the Stars” by Anne-Marie & James Arthur

And how do we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine
And nothing can keep us apart
‘Cause you are the one I was meant to find
It’s up to you, and it’s up to me
No one could say what we get to be
And why don’t we rewrite the stars?
Changing the world to be ours

Anne-Marie & James Arthur, “Rewrite the Stars”

It’s 12: 20 PM on day 2998 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, send time outside, read a Bible verse and do some work

Recently I heard “Rewrite the Stars” by Anne-Marie & James Arthur I love the whole song but my favourite part is And why don’t we rewrite the stars? Changing the world to be ours that’s what I try to do every day – rewrite people’s stars so that the world can belong to all of us equally. Listen to “Rewrite the Stars” below:
