Day 2005: Character and Wealth

To be of character is a human being’s greatest wealth – that’s what I realized today.

It’s 12 : 05 PM on day 2005 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read James 3,  learn one new thing – The name Pluto was suggested by Venetia Burney, an 11-year old school girl in England. She was interested in ancient mythology, and thought that Hades, the Greek god of the underworld, made a good name. She suggested Pluto, to match the Roman god names given to the other planets.–have breakfast and work on my 25 Smiles Campaign – raised $3 297 only $2 953 more to raise by 10 Jan 2017  (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far :)  ).

Today I found myself thinking I would be okay even if I wasn’t rich as long as I was of character but then I realized to be of character is a human being’s greatest wealth.

Day 1330: My thoughts on the unequal distribution of wealth in Africa

“If you take from the most wealthy and give to the least wealthy, it’s good. It starts to balance out.” – Bill Gates

It’s 12  : 00 PM on day 1330 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth,  feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast, read Psalm 17,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,   promote my Eradicate AIDS campaign – still on $602.85 but a lot of people promised to donate which is great –  practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles, stretch my hamstrings and promote my campaign some more – still on 60% so far today.

Recently someone visiting my town from overseas said something along the lines of there’s so much poverty here and yet you have a Mercedes Benz plant when he said it like that it sounded crazy but he had a point there’s an unequal distribution of wealth in all African countries and if something doesn’t change Africa will remain the ugly step-sister of all the other continents.

Day 1111: Count your wealth in how many people you help

Count your wealth in how many people you help and you’ll never be poor– that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 1 : 17 PM on day 1111 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  pray,  feed myself boiled egg and All Bran Flakes for breakfast,read 2 Samuel 14,    publish my Disability of the Day feature,  tweet and Facebook about my campaign – nobody donated so  far today either 17 days to go –  and start reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho – people have been raving about this book forever and just from reading the first few pages I can see why.

Yesterday afternoon on our way to my physiotherapist’s appointment my dad and I were talking about money and I remember saying count your wealth in how many people you help I may never be monetarily rich but when I think about all the people I’ve been fortunate enough to help I feel like the richest person on the planet.  Do you always see yourself as poor because you measure wealth in terms of money?

Day 243

If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can’t buy. – Author Unknown

It’s 8: 56 PM on day 243 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to go open a bank account – my father was in such a rush that I didn’t even have time to brush my teeth but when we got to FNB the staff were so pleasant that it almost made the stress of getting there worth it the woman who helped us didn’t even mind that my signature was far from perfect so to the staff at FNB in Vincent Park, East London I say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE EXEMPLARY SERVICE… YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME 🙂 – make sandwiches for the people in our housekeeper’s neighbourhood (if you have no idea what I am talking about refer to ‘Day 184’) – after weeks of not making sandwiches due to the fact that our housekeeper’s son had died we were back making sandwiches once again although I didn’t do much of anything except take slices of bread out of the packet and hand it to her – she was running late and both of us decided that it would be quicker if she made the sandwiches but I didn’t mind because I was doing something 🙂 – feed myself Chapati – an unleavened flatbread – and Kadala Curry – made of brown chickpeas – for lunch, start to prepare my Kid of the Week feature for tomorrow, feed myself Chapati – an unleavened flatbread – and Kadala Curry – made of brown chickpeas – for dinner, brush my teeth, watch TV and continue to prepare my Kid of the Week feature for tomorrow.

This morning I woke up thirty minutes before my brother and just watched him sleep for the longest while thinking about the fact that Lauren – Brennan’s sister – would never again get to watch her brother sleep and feeling grateful that my brother was healthy and alive because although I often feel like killing my brother I live with the knowledge that I would kill for him in the blink of an eye. Are you the richest poor person around or the poorest rich person around?
