Day 308

A good leader has the power to unite his party while a great leader has the power to unite the entire country – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 8: 44 PM on day 308 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, spend sixty-seven minutes tweeting about South African charities in honour of International Mandela Day – I wanted to go and help out my community but I couldn’t since both my parents were at work so I did what I could for seven different charities 🙂 – read Using Social Media for Charity: @Nisha360 is making a difference on The Nicky Blog and Causes I Promote on Monologues of a Dreamer only stopping to watch Dr. Phil and feed myself a hotdog for brunch – both of them are good posts and I’m not just saying that because I’m featured in ’em :)– tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – watch TV, feed myself tapioca and fish curry for dinner, watch some more TV and brush my teeth once more.

This morning I was watching an extended broadcast of Morning Live – South Africa’s most popular breakfast show – which focused on what people around the country were doing to commemorate International Mandela Day and as I was watching it I realized that more than anything else he’s done Nelson Mandela’s greatest legacy is the oneness his name brings to the South Africa and the world. It’s 8: 52 PM on day 303 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself toast, eggs, sausages and tomatoes for breakfast, watch TV, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, tweet some more about my campaign – today was a productive day I asked some of my friends to write blog posts about me and set up an interview 🙂 – read South African woman uses social media to build well for people without clean water – the published version of interview I did with @JeniseFryatt – thanks Jenise you did a GREAT job 🙂 – answer Nicky’s interview questions – I asked my friend Nicky to write a blog post about me and my campaign on The Nicky Blog and she suggested an interview instead and I have to say the girl knows her stuff 🙂 – feed myself Batura and chicken curry for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday we visited a friend and just before we left she said Neethu – my sister – good luck with the decisions you have to make – referring to the decision she has to make about what she wants to be after she matriculates next year – and then she turned to me and said as if to include me in the conversation Nisha you must help her with those decisions and in that moment I realized that people would always perceive me as my sister’s aid and not as a person of my own just because of my disability and the life I chose which I have now decided is not necessarily a bad thing because I have the element of surprise on my side. Do you choose to see every circumstance as a blessing no matter what it appears to be?

It’s 10: 23 PM on day 296 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself toast, mutton sausage and fried tomatoes for breakfast, watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, do some research on Dementia – it breaks my heart to see my granny becoming less and less of herself and unfortunately it seems that all I can do is sit back and watch because the treatment options for Dementia are very limited 🙁 – read two of the most recent post on Love That Max and Top 9 why you should blog on The Nicky Blog – all the blog posts I read were very good but since I’d never read Nicky’s blog before naturally I was more excited to read that and the fact that I could attest to the 9 reasons why you should blog made it all the better 🙂 – tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – yesterday evening Tana (@woveneye3) made a PayPal donation which I will donate to my campaign on her behalf ASAP and Bonnie (@bonnie67) made two more donations – you guys are AWESOME thank you SO much for your support 🙂 – play host to my extended family who came over for dinner – my aunt almost ended up in tears when my father said grandma didn’t remember the names of her girl children because they didn’t take of her my father didn’t mean anything by it but I saw my aunt’s face when he said that and she was REALLY hurt 🙁 – and brush my teeth once more.

Last night after we came back from dinner at my uncle’s a community member of ours – let’s call him M – called and said he would be coming to our house in ten minutes to borrow our GPS and immediately my dad said with urgency to no one in particular M is coming take Nisha to the other room and in that moment instead of feel less than and going to my room like I usually did I said rather nonchalantly what’s wrong if I’m here to which he responded oh no nothing I just thought you wanted to pee which I did not believe for a second but for the sake of keeping the peace I let it go and asked my mother to help me in the bathroom. Have you taught people to treat you badly?
