Day 2533: Do Everything You Want To Unless There Are Reasons Not To

Do everything you want to do unless there are compelling reasons not to – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 48 PM on day 2533 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read John 8: 12 , have breakfast, read John 8: 12, continue reading Born A Crime by Travor Noah  and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – raised to $3 125 only $9 375 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot .

Recently I got into my head that Shark-Cage Diving would be a great idea but I have since reconsidered because firstly I found out that Shark-Cage Diving is detrimental to sharks and secondly because I found out from doctors in my family that it would be hard for me to breath underwater even with an oxygen mask on (if it was just about me I would have pushed through or died trying but I refuse to play any part in the harming of any animal or human – I have 2 rules for life 1) do no harm and 2) do good) I’ll just have to find another way to raise awareness about and money for my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet

Day 1553: 3 Reasons Not to Get into Philanthropy (and 1 Reason to)

“Charity is just writing checks and not being engaged. Philanthropy, to me, is being engaged, not only with your resources but getting people and yourself really involved and doing things that haven’t been done before.” – Eli Broad

It’s 12 : 22 PM on day 1553 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Isaiah 38, publish my Disability of the Day feature,    publish my Kid of the Week feature, promote my Educate Generations campaign – on $1 190– feed myself  a peanut butter sandwich and a banana for breakfast and continue promoting my campaign – still on $1 190 so far but I am grateful 🙂

Today I was thinking about reasons to and not to get into philanthropy and this is what I came up with. Take a look:

3 Reasons Not to Get into Philanthropy (and 1 Reason to)

Don’t get into philanthropy:

  1. For the money – I am fortunate that I have everything I need and more thanks to my parents but I laugh when I see my bank balance.
  2. For the recognition – if you get into philanthropy to be recognized or admired you’re in for a world of disappointment because frankly most people are too busy with their own lives to even notice what you’re trying to do.
  3. To make friends – when you meet people at a party and tell them you’re building wells or something most people will tell you how wonderful you are and then disappear never to be seen or heard from again.

Do get into philanthropy:

  1. If you want to have meaning in your life – you may not have money or recognition or friends but when you’re in the philanthropy world you go to bed every night knowing that you made (or tried to make) a difference.

Day 1423: 2 Reasons Not to Give and 1 Reason to Give

“Only when you give from the heart does it make the giving whole.” ― Stephen Richards

It’s 1 : 14  PM on day 1423 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself bran flakes with banana for breakfast,  pray, read Psalm 111,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,   practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles and work on my upcoming campaign’s video – I’m not the most natural in front of the camera but after a few takes it started to get easier.

This morning I was thinking about why I give and I came up with 2 reasons why I think we shouldn’t give and 1 reason why I think we should give. Take a look:

2 Reasons Not to Give and 1 Reason to Give

  • Don’t give to get noticed – when we give so that people will notice the whole act of giving becomes about making ourselves look good not about helping other people

  • Don’t give to get anything in return – when we give expecting something in return it’s a business transaction not an act of charity and it ruins the whole experience of giving

  • Give because you feel blessed and want to bless others with your blessings
