Day 2346: My Evolving Relationship with my Elders

How we treat our elders is a reflection of the people we grow up to be – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 11 :  38 AM on day 2346 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  read John 3: 16. set my weekly and daily goals – lots to do this week and today –  and learn a new word – Mellifluous [mel·lif·lu·ous] adj. Sweet or musical; pleasant to hear. “She had a mellifluous voice.”

Today I realized that how we treat our elders is a reflection of the people we grow up to be my parents and I often butt heads on a variety of issues but as I’ve aged I’ve grown in reverence of them because I’ve realized that no two people in the world want better for me and my siblings than they do so now even when I disagree with their methods I so appreciate their intention which is always and forever to protect and help me and my siblings.

Day 2345: Valentine’s Day and Me

A celebration of the different forms of love – that’s what Valentine’s Day is to me.

It’s 11 :  09 AM on day 2345 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  read 1 Corinthians 13:4  and learn a new word – Peripatetic [per·i·pa·tet·ic] adj. Traveling from place to place, esp. working or based in various places for relatively short periods. “He maintained a peripatetic lifestyle.”

Today is Valentine’s Day which to me is not just a celebration of romantic love but also of all other forms of love it’s a celebration of the love I have for God, my parents, siblings, extended family, friends and humanity at large. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone you are so loved and valued.

Day 2315: Love and Sacrifice

Love and sacrifice are inseparable from each other – that’s what I realized yesterday.

It’s 11: 21  AM on day 2315 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, do my first ever Facebook Livestream – that was cool 🙂 – read Jeremiah 29: 11 and have breakfast.

Yesterday I realized that love and sacrifice are inseparable from each other  sometimes the people we love make sacrifices for us that we will never know about because they don’t want us to feel like we are a burden to them (blessed are those who love us in ways we will never know).

Day 2253: Memories

Memories are weird that come flooding back unannounced – that’s what I keep realizing.

it’s 11: 12  AM on day 2253 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, have breakfast,  read  Psalm 23:6 and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –raised $9 011.04 only  $3 488.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).

Today I was listening to this song titled “Angel” and suddenly all these memories of my paternal grandmother came rushing back I know she lived a full life I’m just sad she isn’t here (physically) to see all that I have done and have become and all that I will do and will become.

Day 2208: Family and the End of the School Term

“Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.” – Michael J. Fox

Today is the end of the third school term here in South Africa and since my parents are both teachers and my brother’s still in high school end of term means that the house is going to be full and noisy but I wouldn’t have it any other way I love my family.

Day 2175: Say I Love You

Say the words I love you more often it won’t kill you – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 03  PM on day 2175 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, have breakfast, read Revelation 1:7, learn one new thing –Although kopi luwak is a form of processing rather than a variety of coffee, it has been called the most expensive coffee in the world with retail prices reaching €550 / US$700 per kilogram.-   and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    – yesterday Meg donated $25   (thanks SO MUCH  Meg your ongoing support means a lot 🙂  )  which brings the total  raised to $7 500 only  $5 000 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far 🙂 ) .

Recently I’ve started forcing myself to say the words I love you more often it’s uncomfortable because I am not the mushy sort but since people can’t read my heart I’ll keep saying it hopefully with time it will feel less uncomfortable.

Day 2170: Love Completely

Love people with all your heart even when you know they don’t love you back as much – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 33  PM on day 2170 of my journey towards independence and I managed to   pray, have breakfast, read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, learn one new thing – Known prey of the Megamouth Shark consists entirely of planktonic animals, including euphausiid shrimps, copepods, and the Pancake Jellyfish (Atolla vanhoeffeni). Yet most plankton is found near the surface, so it is something of a mystery how Megamouth manages to find enough to eat. –   and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –   raised $7 225 only  $5 275 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ) .

Today I realized that some people don’t love me nearly as much as I love them it’s neither good, bad, right or wrong it’s just the way things are (or maybe it’s just my perception) if I didn’t love these people I would probably just call it quits but since I do I have decided to put in as much love as is necessary to keep my relationships afloat.

Day 2140: Remembering Ammachi (Grandmother)

Love never dies – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12 : 36  PM on day 2140 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Proverbs 3: 5-6, learn one new thing –After the Greek philosophers Pythagoras, in the 6th century BC, and Parmenides, in the 5th, recognized that the Earth is spherical, the spherical view spread rapidly in the Greek world. Around 330 BC, Aristotle maintained on the basis of physical theory and observational evidence that the Earth was spherical.-   have breakfast,  and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    – yesterday  David Boutin  donated $25   (thanks David 🙂 ) which brings the total  raised to $7 075 only  $5 425 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far 🙂 ) .

Today marks the two year anniversary of my paternal grandmother’s death I miss her potato fry, our physiotherapy sessions and her funny life stories but most of all I miss sitting across from her and holding her hand. I miss you every day Ammachi but I know you’re alive every time I remember you and I do so often with fondness and a smile (especially when I eat fried-blackened sardines I think you were the only person who loved it as much as I did).

Day 2090: Do the Random Things you Love

If the random things you do give you enjoyment or some serenity then they’re not random things – that’s what I keep realizing.

It’s 12 : 03  PM on day 2090 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Ephesians 2: 10, learn one new thing – Inexpensive mass-produced sunglasses were introduced to America by Sam Foster in 1929. Foster found a ready market on the beaches of Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he began selling sunglasses under the name Foster Grant from a Woolworth on the Boardwalk. -have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign   – raised $5 825 only $425 more to raise before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far 🙂 ).

Recently I’ve started spending every sunny afternoon outside just staring at nature I have no doubt people think I’m weird but it centres me and gives me such inner peace that I don’t really care what people think.
