7 Lessons of the Decade

“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” -”
― Michael Altshuler

As we prepare to enter a new decade I’ve been reflecting on what I’ve learned from the current decade

7 Lessons of the Decade

1. Tomorrow is promised to nobody
2.We are defined by WHAT WE GIVE not what we have
3.Little Things are the BIG THINGS
4.People matter most and the right ones will love you as you are
5. Kindness is the compass that will guide you to happiness
6.People will say things about you, you can believe them or YOU
7.Fear is just a feeling

Day 3049: The Lesson That Life Continues To Teach Me

The lessons you don’t learn life will teach over and over again – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 4: 57 PM on day 3049 since I started blogging and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, spend time outside and do some work

Today I was reminded that the lessons you don’t learn life will teach over and over again I do my best all the time but most of the time I feel like it’s not good enough so that’s the lesson that life continues to teach me all you can do is your best I wish I could move on to other fun life lessons but clearly I haven’t learned this one well enough to progress to other life lessons.

Day 2815: Nature’s Greatest Lesson To Me

Nature is one of life’s greatest teachers – that’s what I’ve realized

It’s 1 : 20 PM on day 2815 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read a Bible verse, have breakfast and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet – A donation of $100 was made which brings the total raised to $14 569 only $4 181 more to raise by June 17, 2018 to reach my new goal of helping 75 kids with Clubfoot by June 17, 2018.

This morning as I sat outside watching a bird peck the grass I was reminded that birds are never early and never late despite the fact that they never check a watch maybe we should all be like birds and immerse ourselves fully in every moment knowing that nothing that is truly meant for us will pass us by.

Day 2506: 10 Life and Leadership Lessons from Nelson Mandela

Man’s goodness is a flame that can be hidden but never extinguished. – Nelson Mandela

It’s 12 : 19 PM on day 2506 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray,  have breakfast, read Romans 8:38-39 , and promote my 50 New Feet Campaign benefiting MiracleFeet –   Yesterday  Stan Faryna, author of Francesco Augustine Bernadone  donated $50  (thanks so much again Stan ) which brings the total raised to $2 280  only $10 220 more to raise  by June 17, 2018 to help 50 kids with clubfoot.

Recently I watched a video which was sort of a recap of the top 10 life and leadership lessons from Nelson Mandela I loved it because every one of those lessons are still applicable today. Watch “Nelson Mandela best ever speeches” below:

Day 2300: 6 Lessons Learned in 2016

Every year brings with it its own lessons and those who don’t learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them– that’s what I realized.

It’s 11: 39 AM on day 2300 of my journey towards independence and I managed to  pray, read Romans 8: 28 and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    –raised $9 625.04 only  $2 875.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).

Today being the last day of the year I’ve decided to share some lessons I’ve learned in 2016. Take a look:

6 Lessons Learned in 2016

  1. Christianity is really simple people make it complicated – all the Bible basically says is have faith, be a good human being and do the right thing.
  2. With help I can do anything – going ziplining taught me that with help I can do anything (before that I thought doing physical things was out of the question for me).
  3. The people who really love you are those who saw you when you were invisible to the rest of the world – this year has taught me that most people will applaud you and claim to know you when times are good but those that really love you are those who saw you and those who were there for you when you were invisible to the rest  of the world.
  4. Fear is a feeling and courage is a decision – most of the things I did this year I did in spite of being afraid not because I wasn’t afraid which made me realize fear is a feeling and courage is a decision.
  5. Without health everything else is a meaningless – there were a few months this year that I just kept getting sick (I couldn’t catch a break) which makes me appreciate my health.
  6. The truth is stranger than fiction – Donald Trump is going to be President of the United States of America (yikes) and the UK will exit the EU (double yikes).

Day 2076: Blessings and Lessons

Some people come into your life as blessings while others come into your life as lessons – that’s what I’ve realized.

It’s 12 : 23  PM on day 2076 of my journey towards independence and I managed to pray, read Ecclesiastes 3 1-8,  learn one new thing – Salting, especially of meat, is an ancient preservation technique. The salt draws out moisture and creates an environment inhospitable to bacteria. If salted in cold weather (so that the meat does not spoil while the salt has time to take effect), salted meat can last for years. – have breakfast and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign   – raised $5 774 only $476 more to raise before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far 🙂 ).

Today I realized that some people come into your life as blessings while others come into your life as lessons and not everyone who is in your life now is meant to stay forever.

Day 1718: Lessons I Learned From My Parents

“No matter how far we come, our parents are always in us.”-Brad Meltzer

It’s 12 :  00 PM on day 1718 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,  read Joel 3, publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing  –Abalone shells are the earliest known containers. In Blombos Cave in South Africa, scientists found evidence that as long as 100,000 years ago the cave’s inhabitants had stored a paste of ground ocher and other ingredients, used as decorative paint, in abalone shells.  – feed myself a peanut butter and banana sandwich  for breakfast, watched a few episodes of Oprah’s new shows – I LOVE LOVE LOVE what Bishop T.D. Jakes said those who can’t be broken can’t be blessed it’s so true some of the greatest blessings in my life has come as a result of my brokenness –    and promote my Educate Generations campaign– $3 000 raised so far (thanks again everyone :)) .

Yesterday after reading What my parents taught me about parenting :: a new series by Sarah Bessey I was inspired to write down some of the lessons that my parents have taught me. Take a look:

Lessons I Learned From My Parents

From my father I learned:

  1. Self-acceptance
  2. Humility (my father always says the people who have money don’t go around telling people they have money)
  3. The value of money (from a very young age my father taught me and my siblings the importance of saving and perhaps because of that I don’t spend a lot of money on clothes, make-up or the latest gadgets (I do spend money on healthy food, books and other people [if I truly believe that money can help someone in need in some way I will gladly beg and borrow to make sure they have it]))

From my mother I learned:

  1. Faith (my mother has a faith in God that is off-the-charts it’s really incredible to witness sometimes I think she could put Catholic nuns to shame LOL)
  2. Love (I know I didn’t turn out exactly  the way my mother thought (and maybe even hoped) I would but she loves me anyway)
  3. Strength (I will never forget sitting in our car waiting to be admitted into the hospital for my back surgery I asked my mother am I going to die? to which she replied in her mother tongue of Malayalam no, my daughter, no looking back I realize there was no way on earth she could have known what would happen but she called on a strength somewhere in herself and told me what she knew I needed to hear)
  4. It’s never too late to learn something new (my mother learned how to drive in her mid-30s now she can go anywhere by herself I’m so proud of her)

To mommy and daddy (if you are reading this): Thank you so much for all that you have done (and continue to do) for me everything that I am (and ever will be) I owe to God and the two of you.
