Day 268

Carpe diem! Rejoice while you are alive; enjoy the day; live life to the fullest; make the most of what you have. It is later than you think. – Horace

It’s 8: 50 PM on day 268 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a chicken nugget sandwich for breakfast, create and publish Virginia’s Sandwich Run only stopping to feed myself rice and curry for lunch – I spent three whole hours trying to get the page title in the center but in the end I decided that it didn’t matter where my title was as long as my message was clear 🙂 – watch TV, help my brother with his homework – to Laura (@laurajteacheroz) I totally have a new respect for what you do I only had to do  it for an hour and I felt like pulling my hair out LOL 🙂 – feed myself Puri and chicken curry for dinner, brush my teeth once more and tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – still no luck 🙁

Yesterday I heard the story of eighty-two-year-old twins, Helen and Ellen, who started The Love Kitchen – a non-profit organization dedicated to providing meals, clothing and emergency food packages to the homeless, homebound and unemployed people of Knoxville, USA – twenty years ago and that has inspired me to stop procrastinating and launch Virginia’s Sandwich Run – a page on this blog dedicated to our late housekeeper, Virginia, which aims to raise enough money to make 48 sandwiches a week for the people in our current housekeeper’s neighborhood – today regardless of the fact that I don’t have enough time to do so. Do you postpone making your dreams come true because you don’t have all your ducks in a row?

If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

Day 248

Appreciation consists of words and action – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 40 PM on day 248 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign –no luck but @laurajteacheroz (Laura) promised to donate $50 if 50 people donated $10 each – thanks Laura 🙂 – feed myself a polony sandwich for breakfast, tweet about my campaign some more –still no luck :(– feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch TV, continue reading A Purloined Life – the first of two books in Stella Cameron‘s Charmed, feed myself Batura for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Today I was sitting at my laptop doing something when the memory of a comment left on my Facebook wall post which read you’re a star came flooding back to me and in that moment I felt so angry because the woman who left that comment after reading an article about me was the very same woman who wouldn’t return any of my messages when I sent her a donation request so naturally I wasn’t exactly feeling the love although I did thank her in the interest of being polite. Do you talk the talk but fail to walk the walk?

Day 194

You become your choices. – Unknown

It’s 3: 58  PM on day 194 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, make sandwiches for the people in our housekeeper’s neighbourhood (if you have no idea what I am talking about refer to ‘Day 184’) – I buttered the bread while my mom put the jam on – it was SO much fun the only thing I would do differently was tell my mother to buy foil instead of using the sandwich wrap but still all in all it was great day 🙂 – tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – I woke up to find that four more people had made donations to my campaign after I’d went to bed yesterday which brings my grand total raised on my birthday to $161.68 –a special  thanks to Anonymous, Melanie, @dianarusso (Diana), @laurajteacheroz (Laura) and Anonymous for their generous donations 🙂 –      feed myself rice and curry for lunch, go visit my cousin who came back from university for a week and feed myself pizza and garlic bread for dinner.

Today I signed up to be a part of Earth Hour 2011 hoping that all of the members of my immediate family would participate unfortunately for me I didn’t take into account that Kevin – my 10-year-old brother –  couldn’t survive an hour without watching TV so we reached a compromise I told him he could use everything in the living room provided that everything else in the house was switched off and although I tried my best to my okay with it I remember feeling so annoyed that he refused to cooperate  but then I realized that sometimes you should stand for something even if it means standing alone.  Do you only make the right choice when you’re in the majority?
