Day 2231: My New Favourite Definition of Humility

“Humility is seeing yourself exactly as you are before God.” – Reverend Ian Howarth

It’s 12 :  17 PM on day 2231 of my journey towards independence and I managed to go to church,  read 2 Peter 1:20-21   and work on my  25 Smiles Campaign    – Preethachechi and Tonychachen donated $125 (thanks SO MUCH Preethachechi and Tonychachen) which brings the total  raised to $8 136.04 only  $4 363.96 more to raise to reach my second goal of raising $12 500 for Smile Train before Jan 10 2017 (SO SO SO GRATEFUL to everyone who has supported this campaign so far ).

Today in church the sermon was about the Pharisee and the Tax Collector and during the sermon Reverend Ian basically said humility is not thinking less of yourself but rather seeing yourself exactly as you are before God I loved that definition of humility.

Day 1513: Do you buy into the hype that surrounds you?

Know who you are and don’t buy into the hype that surrounds you – that’s my message to the world.

It’s 12 : 18 PM on day 1513 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Song of Song 8, publish my Disability of the Day feature, promote my Educate Generations campaign –  on $770 – feed myself egg with bread and a banana for breakfast and continue promoting my campaign – still on $770 but that’s okay lots of people promised to donate I trust that they will meanwhile I’ll focus on raising awareness about girls’ education 🙂

This morning I realized I remain largely unaffected by both compliments and criticisms because I know who I am don’t get me wrong I will always appreciate and be humbled by the kind things people say to me and about me but I will never wake up thinking I am so inspirational I see myself as an ordinary girl trying her best to change the world. Do you buy into the hype that surrounds you?

Day 1511: Less Me and More God

23 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.

5 “Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.

8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers.9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Matthew 23: 1-12

It’s 12 : 30 PM on day 1511 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray, read Songs of Songs 6, publish my Disability of the Day feature, publish my Kid of the Week feature, promote my Educate Generations campaign – Anonymous made a donation of $20 yesterday  (thank you SO MUCH Anonymous your contribution and support mean the world to me 🙂 )  which brings my total raised to $770 only $1730 more to raise – feed myself bread with egg for breakfast, go to church and continue promoting my campaign – still on $770 but that’s okay things could be worse 🙂

This morning in church the reverend talked about the three criticisms that Jesus had of religious leaders in Matthew 23 and although the sermon wasn’t directed at me specifically from this day forward I’m going to try to do things in a way that draws less attention to me and more attention to God.

Day 1378: None of us know everything

None of us know everything we all learn as we go – that’s what I realized this morning.

It’s 1  : 14 PM on day 1378 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray,  brush my teeth, read Psalm 65,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,  publish my Kid of the Week feature, promote Eradicate AIDS campaign – no donations so so far today but my friend who prefers to remain anonymous  donated $10 yesterday (thank you so much Anonymous ) which brings my total raised to $885.54 only $114.60 more to raise –    feed myself a chicken wrap  for breakfast and watch some videos as part of How to change the World course.

This morning I was so worried about my lack of essay writing skills until I realized none of us know everything we all learn as we go. Are you one of those people who can’t learn anything because you think you know everything?

Day 1187: Be humble in all your ways

Be humble in all your ways– that’s what my message to the world.

It’s 12  : 35 PM on day 1187 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to  pray,  brush my teeth,  read 1 Chronicles 20,  publish my Disability of the Day feature,  feed myself chicken wraps for breakfast,   practice sitting up straight to strengthen my core muscles,  hang out with my family and go to physiotherapy.

This morning somebody was complaining that they weren’t mentioned in something they were a part of I wish more people would realize life is not about people knowing how much you have or how much you did it’s about making a positive contribution to the world. Do you feel the need to take the credit for everything or are you happy to do all the work and let others take the credit?

Day 699

Overcoming people’s perceptions of me is harder than living with Cerebral Palsy– that’s what I keep learning 🙂

It’s 7 : 38 PM on day 699 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth,  feed myself scrambled eggs, sausage and bread for breakfast, drink coffee by myself  prepare and publish my Disability of the Day feature, prepare and  publish my Kid of the Week feature, work,    feed myself tomato, carrot and chicken  for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Today I was doing something when I suddenly had a flashback of our neighbor’s visit she had come to drop off my brother’s birthday gift and just as she was about to leave she said I’ll keep you all in my prayers it’s a busy time for matriculants  (my sister), teachers (my mother)…. and you (me) my beautiful flower the way she paused before she mentioned something about me really irritated me it’s like she had to think of something and include me in the conversation so as not to be rude I don’t get why people don’t ask what I’m doing instead of assuming I do nothing I don’t tell people all the stuff I do because I don’t want to show off but I would if they asked.  Have you found that overcoming people’s perception of you is harder than anything else you are facing?

I LOVE hearing from you feel free to leave a comment below.

Day 692

Once you think you’ve mastered something that’s when life knocks you down– that’s what I keep learning  🙂

It’s 3 : 20 PM on day 692 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself rice and curry for lunch and exercise my right hand.

Today I tried picking up a knife with my right  hand thinking I had “mastered” doing it a few weeks ago I was shocked to find out I had forgotten how to do it but after I was done beating myself up over it I practiced doing it and was able to do it within an hour one thing is for sure I will incorporate eating with a fork and knife into my daily life so I never again forget how to do it.  Has your overconfidence been your biggest downfall?

I LOVE hearing from you feel free to leave a comment below.

Day 690

Nothing is as big as we make it out to be – that’s what I keep learning   🙂

It’s 2 : 12 PM on day 690 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast and work.

Today (August 3rd ) when I found out I wouldn’t be able to publish any posts for the next three days due to possible technical issues I was majorly bummed but then I thought to myself of all the things I could be bummed about I choose to be bummed about this there are children dying of cancer I have my health and my family what more could I want  so I can’t publish my blog posts for three days big deal I’m important but I’m not that important people will survive even if they don’t read about my day for three days and besides I will still write only I won’t be able to publish the entries until Monday.  Do you make yourself unhappy by turning small things into big things?

I LOVE hearing from you feel free to leave a comment below.

Day 360

I have found that the imagination does not work to its full potential when we are lying on the couch doing nothing, but when we are with like-minded people. – David DeNotaris

It’s 7: 53 PM on day 360 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, compile a post for Youth Voices–a section of NorthFork Collective Voices headed by my friend, Mark McKinney –prepare my Kid of the Week feature for Sunday, tweet and Facebook about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck other than the donation Heather (@TMNQueenMum) made two days ago –thanks Heather 🙂 – I got a battering from a Facebook group creator saying although my campaign might be real he didn’t feel like playing lawyer again this week this is what you get for trying to make a difference – feed myself a bread and butter sandwich for breakfast, watch TV, tweet about my campaign some more–still no luck everybody’s waiting for somebody else to fix  the world’s problems and frankly I’m sick of it!  –  feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch some more TV, feed myself steamed vegetables for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday evening I was on Twitter searching for something I didn’t what until I stumbled onto this profile The Blogunteer (@TheBlogunteer): The Blogunteer profiles non-profit organizations and volunteers with a mission to inspire volunteerism! Tweets by @stacy_pearson http://blogunteer.wordpress.com and logged onto blog what I love most about The Blogunteer is that they, like me, have a passion for giving philanthropists a platform which is why I asked to be profiled why am I telling you this to remind you that no matter how influential you think you might me on your own it never hurts to ask for help from people you know understand you. Is your imagination working to its full potential?

Day 260

Fairest and best adorned is she whose clothing is humility. – James Montgomery

It’s 7: 01 PM on day 260 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign –no luck – read Jude: The Diary of a baby and a stroke and visit Emily’s Smile Boxes – there is a tie that binds both the blog and website which I didn’t initially know about Jenn who writes the blog is also the mother of Emily – the founder of Emily’s Smile Boxes 🙂 – feed myself a polony sandwich for breakfast, watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch some more TV and feed myself banana for dinner.

As you know I am very independent in spirit which is why I find it extremely difficult to ask people for help in any aspect of my life but today I realized that even superheroes need help once in a while so I am asking you with the upmost humility to write about my campaign on your blog or website (see guidelines below).Do you fear asking for help because you are afraid of becoming co-dependent?

Your post must include:

  • An introductory paragraph about how you came to know of me and my campaign and just below it you should copy and paste Who I Am – a blog post I wrote introducing myself.
