Day 308

A good leader has the power to unite his party while a great leader has the power to unite the entire country – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 8: 44 PM on day 308 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, spend sixty-seven minutes tweeting about South African charities in honour of International Mandela Day – I wanted to go and help out my community but I couldn’t since both my parents were at work so I did what I could for seven different charities 🙂 – read Using Social Media for Charity: @Nisha360 is making a difference on The Nicky Blog and Causes I Promote on Monologues of a Dreamer only stopping to watch Dr. Phil and feed myself a hotdog for brunch – both of them are good posts and I’m not just saying that because I’m featured in ’em :)– tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – watch TV, feed myself tapioca and fish curry for dinner, watch some more TV and brush my teeth once more.

This morning I was watching an extended broadcast of Morning Live – South Africa’s most popular breakfast show – which focused on what people around the country were doing to commemorate International Mandela Day and as I was watching it I realized that more than anything else he’s done Nelson Mandela’s greatest legacy is the oneness his name brings to the South Africa and the world. Are you a good leader or a great one?

If you’ve given to my cause or you can’t give now, please help me by sharing my cause with others. You can tweet about it like my friend Stan Faryna. This is the tweet he uses: @Nisha360 is a brave, smart young woman trying to make a better world for us all. Please help her do an amazing thing. http://bit.ly/hC7vOu

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Thanks to all my friends out there who are helping me make my dream come true: to make a better world for all of us!

Day 261

Common sense is not so common. – Voltaire

It’s 7: 09 PM on day 261 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign –no luck – read Life and Times of a Teenager With Disabilities and Bird on the Street – while I could totally relate to the first blog I found the second blog to be a lot more humorous 🙂 – feed myself a Burger for breakfast, open a packet of chips by myself – I had done it for the first time yesterday and I thought it was a fluke so glad it wasn’t 🙂 – watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch some more TV, feed myself a bread and jam sandwich for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

Yesterday as I watching an episode of Dr. Phil entitled Overweight Teens Fight Back I realized that the solution to my brother’s weight problem was simple if the reason he gained weight was because he ate the wrong foods and didn’t exercise then it stood to reason that if we replaced those foods with good foods and encouraged him to exercise his weight would go down now if only I could get my parents onboard with this plan my mother is in denial while all my father does is criticize and enable him. Do you often make things more complicated than they actually are?

Day 135

Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.
Jonathan Swift

It’s 9: 49 PM on day 135 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, update the information on the posters that  @sapphire100  (Emma) and @laura_FilanFan (Laura) are planning  to use for the fundraiser – all I can say is thank God for ‘Copy’ and ‘Paste’   otherwise it would have taken me 7 days as opposed to 3 hours to do everything that needed to be  done –  watch an episode of the Dr. Phil Housewives – it’s amazing how miserable we end up when our perception of ourselves does not match other people’s perception of us – tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no donations were made to my campaign today but I will scream loud and long and eventually people will make donations just to shut me up LOL 🙂 –      feed myself rice and curry for lunch, help my brother with his homework,  feed myself  bun and chicken nuggets for dinner and exercise for 15 minutes.

Yesterday sitting at our dining table staring at the beautiful trees and flowers through the window I thought to myself why am I smiling so much I’m nineteen – soon-to-be twenty – broke, jobless and living with my parents and after a couple of seconds I replied to my own thought saying it won’t be like this for long. Does your vision for the future give you hope in the present? 🙂

Day 128

Be firm on principle but flexible on method. ~ Zig Ziglar

It’s 9: 42 PM on day 128 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, listen to music, design a poster for the fundraiser that my friends from the UK –  @sapphire100 (Emma) and @laura_FilanFan (Laura) are organizing for my campaign – it’s not done yet but I’ve already typed out what I to say now all that’s left is the design aspect 🙂 – drink water by myself, watch TV – Dr. Phil was awesome today! 🙂  –    tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck today 🙁 –   feed myself Chapati – an unleavened flatbread – grilled chicken and baked beans for dinner and exercise for 10 minutes.

Today I needed some information about The Water Project to put in my poster so I visited their website only to find out that the ‘Fund A Well For A Church’ ‘option had been replaced by the ‘Fund an Entire Well’ option which meant that I would have to raise $2 000 more than I intended if I wanted to build a well and with realization came complete devastation but a couple of minutes later I made a decision that I wouldn’t even think about the additional $2 000 that I needed to raise to build a well until   I’d  reached my initial  fundraising target of $4 500. Do you make a conscious choice to adapt to whatever situation life throws at you? 🙂
