Day 243

If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can’t buy. – Author Unknown

It’s 8: 56 PM on day 243 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to go open a bank account – my father was in such a rush that I didn’t even have time to brush my teeth but when we got to FNB the staff were so pleasant that it almost made the stress of getting there worth it the woman who helped us didn’t even mind that my signature was far from perfect so to the staff at FNB in Vincent Park, East London I say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE EXEMPLARY SERVICE… YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME 🙂 – make sandwiches for the people in our housekeeper’s neighbourhood (if you have no idea what I am talking about refer to ‘Day 184’) – after weeks of not making sandwiches due to the fact that our housekeeper’s son had died we were back making sandwiches once again although I didn’t do much of anything except take slices of bread out of the packet and hand it to her – she was running late and both of us decided that it would be quicker if she made the sandwiches but I didn’t mind because I was doing something 🙂 – feed myself Chapati – an unleavened flatbread – and Kadala Curry – made of brown chickpeas – for lunch, start to prepare my Kid of the Week feature for tomorrow, feed myself Chapati – an unleavened flatbread – and Kadala Curry – made of brown chickpeas – for dinner, brush my teeth, watch TV and continue to prepare my Kid of the Week feature for tomorrow.

This morning I woke up thirty minutes before my brother and just watched him sleep for the longest while thinking about the fact that Lauren – Brennan’s sister – would never again get to watch her brother sleep and feeling grateful that my brother was healthy and alive because although I often feel like killing my brother I live with the knowledge that I would kill for him in the blink of an eye. Are you the richest poor person around or the poorest rich person around?

Stan’s very sweet for saying so, but feel free to write what reflects you best.

Day 235

Your talent allows you to show yourself as you truly are – that’s what I learned today.

It’s 8: 25 PM on day 235 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a bread and jam sandwich for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, tweet about my campaign some more – no luck – attempt peeling an orange – I only succeeded in stabbing all the juice out of it (Note to self: Must practice cutting and peeling an orange) – feed myself an orange for dinner, play wrestling with my brother – Brennan’s death has taught me that life is too short not to get down on my brother’s level and play with him 🙂 – continue to tweet about my campaign – still no luck – and brush my teeth once more.

Today I was chatting with my friend via Facebook and she said having read this blog yesterday wow, you inspire me and in that moment I realized that the reason I loved writing so much was because people saw my soul rather than my body when they read what I wrote. When you do whatever it is you do are you able to show yourself as you truly are?

Day 234

From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them and that is eternity. – Edvard Munch

It’s 9: 18 PM on day 234 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a boiled egg for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck – watch TV, feed myself rice and curry for lunch, continue reading A Purloined Life – the first of two books in Stella Cameron‘s Charmed – feed myself boiled green banana with a yoghurt and onion dip for dinner and tweet about my campaign – still no luck damn it I wish everyone would pitch in seeing as we’re all in this together.

Today started out like any other day until Christine – someone I didn’t even know – sent me a message telling me that Brannan – the little boy I wrote a post about yesterday – had passed away and in that moment I couldn’t stop the tears but after about fifteen minutes I dried my eyes and started thinking about ways to honour Brennan’s life which is when I came up with Brannan’s Pledge  – our promise to end all forms of discrimination.

Day 233

Spiritual teachers come in all forms – that’s what I learned today.

It’s 9: 01 PM on day 233 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a banana for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, continue reading  A Purloined Life – the first of two books in Stella Cameron‘s Charmed – watch TV, feed myself Batura – deep fried bread – for dinner and watch some more TV.

As you know religion is a huge part of my life but it wasn’t until I ‘met’ Brennan – a ten-year-old boy who is dying of cancer – that I truly understood the meaning of faith every Sunday he goes to church which I find quite astonishing considering the fact that there was a time in my life that I refused to go to church because I was mad at God for ‘taking away my legs’ with that said I would like to thank Brennan for teaching me that faith is choosing to believe in a higher power even in our darkest hour. Has somebody you least expected taught you a lesson that you will never forget?

Day 228

You can love people you’ve never met – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 7: 46 PM on day 228 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, watch the royal wedding – it was a real life fairytale I have never seen anything like it 🙂 – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, go to physiotherapy – it was PAINFUL but it’s my own fault I didn’t exercise as much as I should have in the past two weeks – watch some more TV, feed myself grilled chicken for dinner and tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck.

As you know a ten-year-old boy by the name of Brennan Daigle has found a special place in my heart and quite recently Brigaders – that’s what Brennan’s fans call themselves on Brennan’s Facebook page, Brennan’s Brigade – raised enough money to make Brennan’s dream of owning a truck come true which in itself meant so much to me but today Kay – a fellow Brigader – told me that she signed the truck on my behalf and in that moment I almost cried not because she signed the truck but because she thought of me. Take a look at the mark I made from all the way across the ocean:

Day 212

Having a meltdown isn’t necessarily a bad thing – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 10: 14 PM on day 212 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself a banana for breakfast, practise wheeling myself around the dining room for an hour, exercise for an hour, listened to music, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, start reading Boundary Lines – the second book in Engaging The Enemy by Nora Roberts – watch TV, feed myself Chapati – an unleavened flatbread – and vegetable curry for dinner tweet and Facebook about my campaign – no donation were made but I did decide to name the well Brannan’s Well hopefully none of my donors will have a problem with it (if you have no idea who Brennan is refer to ‘Day 177’)

Today as I was teaching myself how to get around in my wheelchair I accidently got myself stuck in the doorway leading out of the dining room and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t push myself forward so I just sat there in tears thinking God I know how me being disabled is beneficial for the world inspirational factor and all but what about me I just want to go from one room to another without assistance from anybody and a few minutes after that something came over me and I just decided that I wasn’t going to be the kind of disabled person was a burden on my family and society. Have you ever made a life-changing decision after having a meltdown?

Day 210

There’s no time like the present to make all your dreams come true – that’s what I learned today 🙂

It’s 10: 22 PM on day 210 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, feed myself bun and jam for breakfast, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign for a few hours – no luck – feed myself rice and curry for lunch, watch TV, tweet about my campaign some more – no luck – feed myself bread and vegetable curry for dinner and continue to tweet about my campaign – still no luck 🙁

On March 8th of this year I read about Brennan and ever since then my life has never been the same which is why after days of posting messages of support on Brennan’s Brigade – his Facebook page – I asked to meet him via Skype – I’m still waiting for a response but hopefully Brennan and I will be chatting on Skype very soon :). Do you live your dreams every day or postpone them for a better day?
