Day 1675: The older you get, the less you care

“One gift of getting older is that you care less and less of what people think of you.” – Ellen Seidman, The older you get, the less you care

It’s 12 : 46 PM on day 1675 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, pray,    read Ezekiel 34,   publish my Disability of the Day feature, learn one new thing – Liquid and solid oxygen are pale blue.  –  feed myself a peanut butter and banana  sandwich for breakfast,  promote my Educate Generations campaign–  Catherine Cook who has donated seven times before donated $12 yesterday and Peter Yobo, author of The 7 Steps To Creating Your Masterpiece Day, donated $50 today (thanks so much Catherine and Peter) which brings my total raised to $2 700 I’m SO GRATEFUL 🙂 –  and  continue reading How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie – we had loadshedding (enforced power cuts) again today.

Yesterday I read The older you get, the less you care– a blog post on Love That Max about how getting older makes you care less what people think of you – I don’t consider myself to be old (my baby brother begs to differ) but I could relate to what was written in the post I, too, have found that as I’ve gotten older I care less what people think some people’s opinions change with the seasons so nowadays I just try to make God, myself and my family proud.

Day 986: Life comes full circle

Life comes full circle. You take care of your kids until they have to take care of you. – Linda Poindexter

It’s  5  : 01 PM on day 986 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to pray, brush my teeth, go to church, feed myself All Bran Flakes for breakfast,  read Deuteronomy 3,   publish my Disability of the Day feature,  publish my  Kid of the Week feature and practice typing with both hands

Today spending time with my grandma I couldn’t help but feel a little sad here was this woman who a few years ago could climb up a flight of stairs without breaking a sweat now barely able to walk I try to be in the moment and enjoy the time I have with her now but it’s really hard because I still remember the grandma who made me lemonade with ginger when I had a stomach ache and helped me with my hamstring stretches when my mom wasn’t around.   Has your life come full circle?

Day 299

Whoever said every cloud has a silver lining was telling the God’s honest truth – that’s what I learned today.

It’s 7: 43 PM on day 299 of my journey towards independence and I’ve managed to brush my teeth, tweet about my Clean Water For All Campaign – no luck –read My Kid Will Never Go To College  on Kveller, That was Then, This is Now on Chaing Rainbows and Special needs things that make you go “ARRRGH!”  on Love That Max – reading all three of these blog posts has made me fall in love with blogging all over again because although all three of these people are parents to kids who have “special needs” they all have different perspectives –   feed myself rice and curry for lunch, prepare my Kid of the Week feature for tomorrow, listen to music, tweet about my campaign some more – still no luck 🙁 – feed myself avocado on whole-grain bread for dinner and brush my teeth once more.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts my grandmother has what appears to be Dementia – my family has taken her to a doctor and he says it’s just part of the aging process – and although I am deeply saddened that her mental health has taken a turn for the worse there is a tiny part of me – I can’t believe I’m actually typing this I feel SO guilty – that is happy that I am no longer the “sick one” in this family before I felt SO claustrophobic because my mother was with me 24/7 – apart from when she was sleeping or at work – now she’s too busy tailing my grandma to care what I’m doing. Do you see the silver lining in your dark cloud?
